This Coordinator, Educational/Training Programs 1 position will assist the Program Director and Associate Program Director in the management and direction of neurosurgical education (graduate and professional students) within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB :
In collaboration with the Program Director (PD) and the Associate Program Director ( APD ) assist with development and monitoring of specific measurable goals and objectives for the six ACGME core competencies (Patient Care

Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism and System-Based Practice)

In collaboration with PD and APD assist with the development of educational methods necessary to teach core competencies, e.g. maintain regular, didactic conference schedule, maintain schedule of clinical rotations for all residents.

In collaboration with PD and APD construct and monitor methods of assessment of resident proficiency in the core competencies.

Assist with departmental continuous quality educational improvement initiatives

Assist with the development of core educational curriculum for the residency program.

Develop educational portfolios for resident assessment.

Construct and maintain methods for meeting Departmental residency compliance with ACGME and Neurosurgery RRC requirements.

Participate in national forums for neurosurgical education ( SNS , ACGME , AANS , ABNS , NI and CNS )

Improve the use of information technology for educational purposes within the department.

Participate in leadership activities: New Innovations Task Force, COM Intern Orientation Committee

Assist Educational APD with the re-design and realignment of assessment methodologies (designing new evaluation tools specific to each faculty member and rotation).

Assist in the development of the annual Transition to Internship Program

Manage and Disperse teaching and performance evaluations as they relate to the residency and fellowship programs in New Innovations.

Direct the processes for residency recruitment including interview process, applicant portfolios and NRMP match activities.

Manage the residency call schedule and Shands Oncall System

Maintain residency files

Meal ticket allocation and prescription disbursement

Manage Resident licensing; assist residents with licensure application, DEA application and renewal

Manage monthly rotation and vacation schedules

Customer Service – respond to all inquiries via email or phone regarding the residency program

Lead weekly team meetings (APD’s, PD and Secretary)

Manage Residency program Databases (New Innovations, WebADS, NRMP , ERAS , Caselogs, ACGME , AAMC , ABNS , AANS )

Review and verify VA quarterly invoices for resident hours worked

Prepare bi-annual residency reviews including collection of needed data

Develop and monitor departmental educational database with respect to (Applicant selection, Resident performance

Program graduates)

Process resident reimbursements

Construct and maintain a comprehensive Department of Surgery 4th year Externship (Rotations and educational Conferences)

Manage, distribute and track resident evaluations

Special Events (Visiting Professors, Intern Orientation, Graduation, Neurosurgery Research Day, ABNS Exam)

Verify post-graduate training

Manage and track all fellowship activities for the Endovascular fellowship ( ACGME Accredited)

Manage and track all fellowship activities for the Cerebrovascular fellowship (non Accredited)

Manage and track all fellowship activities for the Functional and Stereotactic Fellowship (non accredited)

Research and assist residents with Travel Grants and other funding opportunities.

Manage resident scholarly activity and track in New Innovations.

Manage the rotations of 3rd year medical students and student researchers.

Manage Residency program Secretary (projects, time worked and work load)

Approve and proof all correspondence sent out on behalf of the residency program or PD

Approve and proof all program media (fliers, brochures, and announcements)

Cross train to fill in as coordinator as necessary (Shands Oncall, Prescriptions and Meal Ticket Disbursement)

Approve all leave requests

Assist PD and APD in creation of a program for faculty development.

Assist PD and APD in development of educational workshops, grand rounds and retreats for all neurosurgical faculty and residents.

Assist in the enhancement of financial support for neurosurgical education.

Manage biannual evauations of faculty teaching performance by residents in New Innovations.

Other Duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
