Job Description:
This position is located in the College of Education. The Instructional Technologist will work collaboratively with CEDAR staff and partners to create accessible resources on the CEDAR web community. The instructional technologist will (1) consult and collaborate with content experts in the design and development of tools, resources, and other materials, including interactive community and multimedia components; (2) assist specialists in developing reusable learning objects and integrating them into various forms of technical assistance, (3) guide content experts in the application of effective pedagogy/andragogy for web-enhanced content delivery, and (4) assist with the design of other materials such as policy briefs. The role also includes customized training of staff and guest content providers and site visitors. The Instructional Technologist will partner with the Web Applications Developer to develop, maintain, and improve the CEDAR website/community.

This position is time limited.

Responsibilities:
Instructional technology support for technical assistance:
Consult with individual faculty, students, and staff in the development of online training materials for technical assistance. Identify pedagogical objectives and appropriate supporting technologies, and provide expert advice to faculty on instructional design and development.
Assist faculty in the preparation of training materials for online distribution including the creation of HTML pages, uploading and organization of training materials for online delivery, and production of digital resources that will be easily accessible to a range of online learners.
Serve as a primary technical support provider to all faculty, staff and students providing technical assistance, with emphasis on instructional design, web-based content delivery and their specific tools, and vendor-specific tools that will enhance and individualize the technical assistance for each specific case.

Manage all online technical assistance development initiatives to ensure that program resources will meet the expectations of all stakeholders (faculty, students and staff), while meeting schedule timeline and budgetary targets.
Serve as a Tier One support provider in an ongoing manner. Assess support needs, and advance ongoing improvements to client orientation, online technical assistance and web design accordingly.
Successfully work with partner organizations to ensure the execution of the online program.

Documentation and Training:
Educate faculty and staff on the best Web 2.0 strategies to use for maintaining their web presence with regards to the tools available. This includes group and one-on-one training as needed.
Provides instruction to faculty and staff on web related technologies. Writes or revises user training documentation and procedures. Develops and delivers training materials such as tutorials and visual displays. Contributes to improved faculty effectiveness and instruction by developing and providing professional development seminars to faculty and staff regarding web page development, web-related application development, the use of presentation software for distance students and faculty, and other uses of technology.
Helps ensure the effective utilization of technological resources by serving in a consultative role regarding new internet technologies, software, and modifications to existing systems, evaluating and recommending software and hardware used in web application development and interactive application design. May carry out oversight responsibilities in accordance with the University’s policies and applicable laws. Assists with the development of Web Standards (security, ID validation, user authorization, web presentation, etc.)and adherence to University standards and guidelines related to the web.

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
A master’s degree in Education Technology or a related field
Applicant should have experience supporting learning management systems, social Web 2.0 tools, and their application in academic settings or institutions of higher education.
Experience in managing and editing content for mass audiences is preferred. In addition, experience in supporting abroad base of users and systems, PC and Apple systems and coordinating with a variety of constituents and technicians is also preferred.
Other qualifications include a strong collaborative working style and the ability to work well within a technical team; the ability to thrive in an unstructured environments; dedication to excellence in service to College computer users; excellent oral and written communication skills; time management and problem-solving skills; and the ability and desire to learn continuously and quickly, as required by the technical challenges of this environment. Experience designing and implementing web-based systems and sites is necessary along with experience managing and troubleshooting faculty and students’ interactions with learning management systems and Web 2.0 tools.
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS , RSS and various content management or web-related application development tools. Expertise with the manipulation of many different forms and modes of graphic images, video, audio and text.
Excellent knowledge and experience with content management systems such as Wordpress is preferred.
Experience working and managing with multiple content experts and user-generated content. Ability to manage and help facilitate content generation from interested stakeholders.
