The EHR Applications Trainer/Analyst is a key member of the EHR Program Management Offices core team. While reporting to the EHR Program Director, the Electronic Health Record Applications Trainer/Analyst receives daily direction from the Sr. Applications Trainer for Electronic Health Records (EHR) Project. S/he will assist with developing and conducting training programs for employees including clerical, clinical and administrative staff. While initial focus will be on electronic health records training, the position will expand to include other applications and end user skill set development.
The EHR Applications Trainer/Analyst will utilize identified methodologies, e.g. Computer Based Training, (CBT), train-the-trainer techniques, classroom outlines, etc. to ensure that targeted staff are able to function in assigned positions using the necessary application tools. S/he will train super users, project staff and a variety of end users. S/he will evaluate students learning experiences. S/he will also provide direct support as needed to staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Master both the EHR application and the organization's specific work-flows.
Support the build, testing and maintenance of the Electronic Health Record (eCW) Training environments.
Design, develop, implement and assess informatics skill-based learning for clinicians and staff.
Maintain trainee class registrations, confirmations, proficiency scores and survey responses.
Develops and maintains training schedules, secure training tools and facilities, and coordinates class schedules based on needs of departments. Work with administrative departments and Security to assist with user provisioning.
Cultivate strong relationships with Administrative staff to improve course materials and monitor feedback.
Enhance and develop teaching aids such as training manuals, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids and screen casted computer tutorials.
Creates application related training documentation, e.g. manuals, outlines, course curricula, training scripts, course objectives, handouts, tests, laboratory exercises, post training support materials, etc.
Updates course materials and teaching aids based on industry/professional knowledge and/or objective evaluation feedback
Ensures every class has a listing of course objectives
Develops or utilizes existing computer based training programs for non-lecture material delivery
Formulates instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, seminars, meetings, computer/web based training and/or workshop options
Revises design of assigned course training curriculum and methods for improved effectiveness
Prepares electronic and physical training environments as needed to achieve training objectives
Liaison to PDPH HR department for updates on standards, policies and procedures
Conducts effective end user training sessions. Note: Role based training is preferred where warranted
Observes trainees in training session and ensures that all questions are answered
Administers oral and/or written proficiency/competency tests and training exercises
Trains assigned instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for training
Ensures that course objectives are clear to students
Ensures that students meet course objectives
Ensures that class time is divided appropriately between class topics
Performs training in both one on one or group settings and on the road at remote sites
Conveys knowledge of the software product directly to the student
Presents materials clearly in classroom and/or workplace situation
Maintains students level of interest while teaching
Utilizes relevant, easy to understand examples to further classroom training
Actively obtains end-user feedback utilizing department tools
Utilizes adult education principles to impart knowledge to students
Ensures that training occurs as scheduled without interruption, distraction or inconvenience to the student
Performs training in the best setting to ensure maximum knowledge transfer
Delivers recurrent skills enhancement training
Participates in application testing as needed
Ensures cross coverage exists for assigned courses
Schedules classes based on availability of classrooms and equipment
Schedules students utilizing departmental tools
Coordinates established training courses with technical and professional courses offered by other departments and/or outside agencies.
Maintains records and prepares statistical reports to evaluate self and or performance of trainers
Utilizing statistics reports, monitors the progress of students longitudinally across similar classes
Evaluates new training programs, including outlines, text, handouts and advances changes in course curriculum
Evaluates existing training programs, including outlines, text, handouts and advances changes in course curriculum
Evaluates need for course changes based on subjective and objective course feedback
Prepares monthly compilation of evaluation data and reviews with division manager
Participates in peer review program and provides feedback to other instructors regarding techniques, etc.
Provides feedback to end-user area managers or their designate re: student performance in classroom situation
Performs post-training follow-up with class attendees to ensure appropriate knowledge transfer
Ensures all students complete a course evaluation
Reviews course evaluations with management staff and adjusts training schedule, content, style, etc. based on course evaluation feedback
Researches and requests in-services and/or training classes to learn new skills as needed
Attends meetings and seminars to obtain information useful to technical training
Maintains communication link with application/division/project staff regarding application updates, upgrades, hot fixes, etc.
Possesses or is in process of obtaining application certification, if available
Engages in learning activities to ensure knowledge base is current with respect to existing or proposed roster of applications
Works with IT staff to ensure that training PCs are application ready and fully functional.
Ensures there is cross coverage for all courses
Makes recommendations concerning usability, integration, and support of clinical application
Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of applications for CME, CEU or other professional educational requirements
Works with Human Resource and Information Technology leadership to update position descriptions
Demonstrate knowledge of departmental standards
Report status data to manager(s)
Utilizing gained knowledge of client practices, organizational and regulatory requirements:
