Reporting to the Director of Oral Health Informatics and working within the office of Clinical Information Services at the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) and Columbia University Health Care (CUHC), Inc. CUHC is the Article 28 licensed facility that operates the CDM's comprehensive clinical care programs. The EHR Consultant/Trainer is responsible for tracking the resolution of all problems related to usage of the Electronic Health Information Record (EHR), the data contained in the EHR, and the training needs of the end users (faculty, students, fellows, residents) of the CDM/CUHC. The incumbent will work with the Program Directors and Clinical Administrators to identify training needs for groups and individuals. Responsibilities: 1. Create, maintain and terminate axiUm user accounts and permissions, in accordance with user roles, responsibilities and status changes. Ensure compliance with CDM IT account management policies, health record policies, and maintain required documentation. 2. Accept requests for new user accounts, or permission changes to existing user accounts. If changes are not keeping with current policies, work with area supervisor to determine if request is reasonable and if policy changes are required. 3. Work with clinical supervisors, faculty leadership, and student/resident to identify training needs and assess training effectiveness. 4. Work with the Director to develop a training plan for the faculty, residents, and students of the CDM. Work with the CDM Meaningful Use (MU) team to provide initial and ongoing training to achieve MU objectives. 5. Develop Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK) training modules to educate and assess faculty, staff, and students. 6. Work closely and cooperatively with application CIS technical resources and axiUm vendor to communicate the impact of software patches and releases to CDM faculty, staff, and students. 7. Document user problems and errors. Track error trends and propose solution for resolution or additional follow-up training to decrease errors. 8. Ensure that all EHR problem reports are ticketed within the CIS problem tracking software. Track the progress of these tickets and bring to the attention of the Director any tickets that are not making reasonable progress. 9. Investigate EHR problems and troubleshoot system issues/problems, escalate issues as appropriate to ensure timely resolution; analyze system, configuration and procedures to optimize existing software; evaluate current systems and make recommendations/decisions regarding future development. 10. Perform other special assignments and related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Dental/Biomedical Informatics, Training, or Dental Assistant/Technician program , or Information Systems, plus three years of related experience in a healthcare environment as a dental information system support, practice manager, nurse, or dental/medical assistant.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with axiUm or other Enterprise EHR systems. Three years of recent, consecutive experience working as a UPK Developer in a healthcare environment or similar experience with an equivalent training development tool. Experience working in an academic dental clinic environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write clear instructions, document processes, and communicate effectively in writing. Understanding of process and quality improvement, and experience with work flow design highly desired. Project management experience highly desired.
