The Clinical Services Group (CSG) is responsible for the development and implementation of HCA's electronic health record (EHR) program. The Director of EHR Benefits Realization leads the realization of benefits of Electronic Health Records implementation, which are believed to contribute significant financial cost savings alone, save thousands of lives, reduce the avoidable safety incidences that harm our patients, and create a more satisfying workplace for our clinicians and staff. These benefits are expected to accrue gradually over the next several years, as our facilities continue to deploy EHR technology.
Responsible for the strategy development, execution and ongoing monitoring of enterprise wide EHR Benefit Realization.
Identify, implement track, and manage the metrics of success across quality, safety, satisfaction, and financial benefit categories.
Responsible for ensuring this rigor horizontally and longitudinally, that is, working with EHR project owners to ensure useful and concise adoption and impact metrics are identified up front, and then reported on, refined, and managed to over the long-term.
Serves as the CSG business owner of the EHR benefits. This role will provide direction and requirements to various resources on the development of a central management and reporting tool that represents this information such as a unified benefits dashboard cutting across quality, safety, satisfaction, and financial metrics. This tool provides a comprehensive view of whether EHR has conferred benefits upon a hospital, if so, how much, and if not, why not.
Define the requirements for the level of aggregation that is required to analyze the information at the Market, Division, Group and Enterprise level.
Serve as the primary resource to advocate the tenets of the benefits of EHR technology. This will require working closely in collaboration with the implementation and optimization teams to assist in driving the clinical workflow and process changes of these metrics. This will include field level involvement to translating benefits into their workflow components and the concrete action plans for addressing any workflow gaps.
Integrate benefit categories to hospital processes, in effect "operationalizing" the benefits.
Work with the CSG Chief Financial Officer, Group CFOs and Controllers on the financial benefits calculations and budget tracking. The cumulative benefits realization will continue to increase over the various stages of meaningful use and EHR implementation. This data will begin to influence the facility level budget process.
Author strategic documents such as executive summaries, education and communication materials, project status reports and so forth.
Actively communicate with division, corporate and facility stakeholders to manage the impact of change and communicate overall strategy, project status, expectations and timelines.
Design implementation strategies in collaboration with corporate, division, and facility colleagues that maximize potential for success and minimize operational disruption.
Ensure collaborative working relationships with corporate departments, divisions, and facility leaders.
Other duties as assigned as necessary, to support the EHR Program Office and the Clinical Services Group.
College degree required.
Requires 5+ years relevant work experience.
Requires 3 to 7 years management experience.
HCA background/experience preferred
Strong leadership skills with excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
Detailed working knowledge of hospital operations and the health care industry including EHR strategies, medical-legal issues, clinical workflow, and financial operations preferred.
Working knowledge of hospital finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control and return on investment principles.
Experience in developing and executing business strategies with defined metrics and analytical content.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.
Possesses good organizational and presentation skills. Demonstrated presentation/public speaking skills and experience required.
Demonstrates leadership presence, practices excellent diplomacy skills. Previous executive level leadership and management experience is required.
Possesses developed interpersonal skills to work in a high profile and fast paced team environment.
Definitive analytical ability. Problem solving is a required core competency and problems will span the gamut from finding the right metric to show senior management that an application is meeting adoption goals, to resolving timeline and resource challenges, to identifying and fixing a workflow challenge that hampers benefits realization.
