ASBESTOS/LEAD FIELD TECHNICIAN

LOCATION: Houston, Beaumont/Nederland and Pasadena, TX

Total Safety EHS Services is looking for 6 Asbestos/Lead Field Technicians whose responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the general duties of collecting air and bulk samples (including asbestos and lead) and analyzing the air samples using Phased Contrast Microscopy (PCM) NIOSH 582 method or equivalent.

Experience and Education:
Experience in an industrial or technical field preferred but not required;

Required - high school diploma or GED;

Preferred - AS degree in science or technology-related field such as industrial hygiene, engineering, industrial technology, environmental sciences, safety, biology, physics, or chemistry;

Preferred – training for asbestos (including NIOSH-582 and/or inspector), lead, or mold;

Additional training may be required depending on client or project-specific requirements and/or company policies.

Certifications/Training:
Preferred – Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician (AAMT), Asbestos Building Inspector (ABI), Asbestos Project Manager (APM), Lead Inspector (LI), Lead Risk Assessor (LRA), Mold Assessment Consultant (MAC), and state certifications and/or EPA accreditations for asbestos, lead, or mold.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect air and bulk samples (including asbestos and lead) and analyzing the air samples using Phased Contrast Microscopy (PCM) NIOSH 582 method or equivalent;

Operate, calibrate, and maintain instruments including sampling pumps, calibrators, noise dosimeters, and sound level meters, and direct reading gas meters;

Conduct safety inspections at client site;

Collect notes on activities performed by workers being monitored and/or maintain daily log of activities related to project work;

Complete data sheets, chain of custody forms, and prepare samples for shipment to laboratory;

Create data tables and drawings for reports;

Conduct respirator fit testing;

Submit administrative paperwork including timesheets, expense reports, field reports, etc. on a timely basis in accurate and neat format.

Knowledge/Skills Required:
Familiarity with OSHA regulations, ACGIH, ANSI, CGA, and other applicable EHS guidelines and consensus standards;

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;

Willingness to travel.

Compensation/Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt position, subject to overtime paid at time & one-half over 40 hours in the work week.
