An Engineering Technician VII operates at the same level of difficulty and responsibility as the professional Engineer II (advanced trainee) but the work of the technician is characterized by greater emphasis on operational and practical problems than on theoretical concepts. The position typically combines supervisory responsibility with technical functions, serving as a first-line supervisor in the assignment, direction and control of lower level engineering aids, technicians and/or other non-professional personnel performing tasks of limited complexity and scope.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent, with courses in mathematics.
Engineering-Support Experience: Four years of work experience in one or a combination of the engineering-oriented functions such as inspection, testing, designing, surveying, drafting, and construction, which required the knowledge of engineering terminology and the ability to use mathematical skills in the solution of engineering-support or engineering problems.
At least one year of the required Engineering-Support Experience must have been comparable to the Engineering Technician VI level, or two years of experience comparable to the Engineering Technician V level in the State government.
The Engineering Technician V is responsible for carrying out a sequence of standardized or prescribed operations typically requiring a practical background knowledge of engineering methods and practices in the specialization or area of assignment. Recurring routine technical problems are resolved on the basis of previous experience without reference to the supervisor; such work is reviewed upon completion for technical adequacy. On problems involving unfamiliar conditions, methods or concepts, instructions are provided by the supervisor and work is reviewed in process and on completion for technical accuracy and adequacy.
The Engineering Technician VI is responsible for carrying out a variety or sequence of technical operations that are not completely standardized or prescribed requiring the use of a variety of standard references, guides, and precedents to obtain needed information and to select and adapt methods and procedures. Assignments require background knowledge of engineering principles and practices and are made without explicit instructions as to work methods; technical problems are typically resolved independently, but may be referred to higher level technicians or professional engineers in unusual cases.

License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license. For those positions requiring a driver's license, you must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.
Special Requirement: Some positions require lifting and carrying loads of various weights.
