Minimum Education and Experience:
Four year degree with a preference for a related major in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or closely related science; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require specific certifications or licenses. Specific jobs will require additional minimum training and/or licensing upon selection.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position is being recruited for at the Journey level under the Career Banding program. The hiring range for this position is $51,449 - $65,449 and the salary grade equivalent is 72. ************************************************************************************************************************************************
The ideal candidate for this position will have considerable knowledge of state and federal safety and health standards, codes, regulations, practices and other requirements as applied to a University and industrial manufacturing environment. Candidate will have considerable knowledge of safe work habits and the ability to recognize unsafe conditions or acts and to determine corrective actions as necessary. Ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees and contractors to ensure understanding of the importance of establishing and maintaining a safe working environment, ability to develop and present training programs on a wide variety of safety topics to both small and large groups, and the ability to plan and direct a department-wide safety program. This position will work closely with other departments within the campus community (included but not limited to students, staff, administrations, alumni and trustees) concerning their subject matter. This position will develop, monitor and maintain standard operating procedures for Energy Services with regards to safety and adhere to OSHA, State, Federal and University safety guidelines, legislation and regulations, conduct inspections to determine safety deficiencies and develop strategies to correct.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidate will have at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in safety, preferably in an industrial manufacturing/construction/utilities environment with a degree in safety management or related field.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:
The environmental conditions vary tremendously from air conditioning and heat to dusty, hot, humid and cold conditions. This position will be required to work in all conditions for various lengths of time depending on the operational requirements. This position will be required to enter confined spaces or hazardous environments with the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with established procedures. Must be able to climb ladders/stairs, move heavy equipment for inspection and inspect in low, high and/or tight spaces. The position could be exposed to excessively loud noise, lubricants and other chemicals.
