Under general supervision, leads and conducts indoor and outdoor activities to encourage learning and develop social interaction skills for children in a day care program. Provides safe, stimulating environment for young children.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:


Performs classroom-teaching duties, follows pre-approved lesson plan. Leads play, reading, and quiet-time activities, which encourage social interaction between children.

Under general supervision, conducts activities that provide individual developmental experiences for children.

Responsible for the health, safety and personal welfare of assigned children.

Supervises assigned childcare service areas; insures that safety precautions are observed; oversees the use of equipment and materials. Cares for and maintains assigned equipment, teaching aids and materials.

Assists in organizing, promoting and leading diversified child care activities; cooperates and assists in community wide events;

Provides direction and mentors subordinates and volunteers.

Substitutes as needed for the immediate supervisor and acts in his or her absence; prepares necessary routine reports;

Provides a supportive environment for program participants.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Knowledge of the principles, rules and equipment requirements of common child care activities; knowledge of safety precautions and basic emergency first aid procedures; speak and write effectively; ability to instruct individuals and groups in a variety of child care activities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, parents and the general public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to maintain routine records and prepare reports. Effective command of English language is required; bi-lingual is a plus. Must maintain high moral standards; be well disposed around children.
Must possess good moral character as determined by CFS screening process. May require valid state driver's license. Must have acquired a Children and Family Services forty hour (40 hr.) Child Care Training Course or be registered for the courses within 60 days from date of hire.
First Aid and CPR certification is required within 60 days of hire.

Must posses one of the following credentials:

• A four-year degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child growth and development, child psychology, elementary education or sociology.
• Certification from the National Child Development Associate Credentializing program or be presently enrolled in a Child Development Association program.
• At least sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in child development or early childhood education, documented by a transcript.
• Any child care development associate equivalent.
