Echo/Vascular Technologist PRN
Under the immediate direction of the Director of Radiology, performs echocardiograms as ordered by the physician for the information in the diagnosis and treatment of patient’s condition.
Schedules tests according to procedure.
Sets up patients for tests informing the patient about procedures.
Assess the needs of the patient, responds to their psychological needs and answers questions appropriately.
Works independently and as a team member according to the test being performed.
Is responsible for assuring age appropriate care, and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients, while following the hospital established standards and practices
Graduate of an accredited allied health care program with work related experience in ultrasound; six months to a year of clinical experience with cardiac care patients.
Job Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Echocardiogram Stress Testing, Dobutamine Echocardiograms, Carotid Artery Evaluations, Venous Doppler studies and segmental blood pressure techniques, as well as use of contrast media.
Must posses understanding of human anatomy, physiology and cardiac/medical terminology.
It would take an average new employee approximately 6 months to learn the duties and responsibilities of vascular testing and approximately 1 year to learn the full scope of echocardiography.
The equipment in the Cardiovascular Lab is extremely technical, and proper use, handling and maintenance are required.
The employee must perceive vascular disease and/or cardiac disease and gain full knowledge of how to recognize an abnormal study on each test performed.
The employee must ascertain medical terminology and spelling since written reports are a permanent part of each patient’s file.
The employee must master the use of ultrasound in obtaining sufficient views for physician interpretation, Doppler analysis and recorded waveform analysis.
The employee must grasp managerial skills.
Prior experience beneficial: 2-3 months prior experience in vascular lab and 3-6 months in echocardiography but not a requirement
