Electrical Engineer I/Principal Electrical Engineer (P-9/P-10)
Brookhaven National Laboratory is a nonprofit research and development institution whose purpose is to advance ideas and knowledge through a multidisciplinary program of basic and applied research. Modernization Project Office (MPO) currently has a Full-Time opportunity for an Electrical Engineer (P-9)/Principal Electrical Engineer (P-10) with a background in Electrical Engineering.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for development and execution of major construction projects from conceptual through detailed design, construction and operation phases. Responsibilities will include:
Assist with managing the configuration and operation of BNL’s Electric Power Distribution System
Arc Flash studies, short circuit and system protection calculations, review and approval of electrical shutdown and operating procedures
Support the design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects for new and existing facilities
Assignment as Project Manager for various infrastructure projects including the ability to manage Line Item (LNI) type projects

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent with a minimum of ten (10) years’ progressively responsible experience in project management, building design, facility construction, and electrical power distribution systems.
Demonstrated applications of advanced project management techniques (initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control and close out). Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable.
Experience in the development and execution of major construction projects from conceptual through detailed design, construction and operation phases.
Familiarity and experience with DOE Order 413.3B “Program and Project Management for the Acquisition of Capital Assets” requirements; including application of Earned Value Management; and BNL’s/F&O’s contractual and Performance Evaluation Management Plan (PEMP) measures.
Familiarity and experience in the procurement and management of Architect/Engineer service contracts and major construction contracts.
Experience meeting with clients, writing proposals and defining scope of work is required, as well as developing project plans, schedules and cost estimates to meet customer needs.
Responsible for leading and directing teams to deliver projects within the constraints of scope, schedule, cost and safety.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Attained distinction of outstanding engineering achievements and/or contributions to the field of engineering.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
PE license and/or master’s degree required. Familiarity with NFPA70, NFPA70E, NESC, IEEE, NYS Building Code, and OSHA construction safety required.
Successful candidate will be placed at the P-9 or P-10 level dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. To be considered for the P-10 level classification, internal candidates are required to have worked at least five (5) years as an Electrical Engineer I, and, for external candidates, an equivalent.
