Under the general supervision of the Craftworker Supervisor, perform journeyman electrical work for Mendota Mental Health Institute and Central Wisconsin Center. Install, maintain and repair electric circuits and devices; install and repair motors, electric pumps and ventilators; install and terminate communication cabling and equipment; repair underground lighting and distribution systems; maintain distribution systems within buildings; replace bearings, motor starters, and overload protection; maintain transformer banks, observing operating loads and temperatures; maintain and repair complex closed-circuit video surveillance system, including cameras, interconnected with multi-output video switches, multiple monitors, remote digital pan/tilt/zoom controls, and associated equipment; maintain and repair door security, and door closures and locking systems; maintain and repair electronic security door closures and locking systems; and maintain and repair PLC Control Systems; and maintenance of shop inventory and records, submission of reports, and miscellaneous duties.

Special Notes :
Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a security background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
All methods, procedures, practices, tools and instruments used in the electrical trade; state and national electrical codes; occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the electrical trade; electrical diagrams, schematics and blueprints; solid-state electronic devices and integrated circuits; paging and intercom systems; electronic and computerized fire alarm system and smoke detection systems; closed-circuit video surveillance systems and computerized control equipment; ability to plan, design, install and maintain electronic security systems; basic knowledge of electrical schematics and blueprint drawings; PLC Controls Systems; basic personal computing skills and work processing and file management; and ability to lift 40 pounds.
The starting salary is between $39.812 and $41.102 per hour depending on leave time selected. The cost of employer paid benefits, except optional health insurance, has been deducted. A six month probationary period is required. This position is in pay schedule/range 04-00 and is represented by the Building Trades bargaining unit.
