Job Summary:

The Job Counselor position is funded through State and Private Foundations, to assist eligible African Asylees, immigrants/ refugee women (in the US for 5 years or less) secure employment and enhance their self-sufficiency. This position is responsible for the following: participant recruitment, intake, facilitation of orientation and job clubs, assessments, interviewing, case management, counseling, job coaching, intervention, advocacy, referrals, removing barriers to employment, job development, and maintaining participant program documentation.

The AGILE Facilitator position is also responsible for the overall coordination and operation of the AGILE curriculum and individual support components and the Parent-Daughter Readiness Seminars. The functions of this position include but are not limited to: inspiring girls and women to actively participate in project activities; conducting outreach and enrollment activities; finalizing site selection and site relations; coordinating the provision of group activities and curriculum and individual support and counseling; finalizing curriculum development; volunteer development and oversight.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Needs’ Assessments with new clients to determine strengths and needs.
  • Match clients’ needs and strengths with job leads to facilitate job placement for all clients.
  • Identify and generate local job leads.
  • Conduct extensive outreach to the refugee community (focusing on high density areas) and develop relationships with community leaders as well as social organizations active in the area.
  • Provide on-going employment counseling and case management services to participants, including, but not limited to, job search assistance, job club, application blank assistance, interview coaching and translation/interpretation.
  • Ensure that all case files are properly maintained, all intake/enrollment data is recorded, case notes are documented, placement information is document and updated, and placement verification is completed.
  • Prepare monthly reports of client and staff activity and submit reports by deadline.

Qualifications:
  • A current student or graduate with a four-year college degree in a related field plus two years of youth development and/or teaching experience.
  • Bilingual individual who speaks one or more West African “official” languages including English, French or Portuguese.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with diverse clientele and track the activities and outcomes of at least 75 enrolled individuals annually in the employment program.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a strong team player.
  • Knowledge of existing employment and training providers and agencies and institutions that provide supplementary services to refugee participants.
  • Ability to transport participants in personal and official vehicles, and travel in and out of state as needed.
