Tetra Tech EM Inc., a subsidiary of Tetra Tech, is
currently seeking a full-time, Senior Energy
Auditor/Retro-commissioning (RCx) Engineer to work on
various contracts out of our San Diego, CA office.
The work tasks involve a combination of office and
frequent field visits in and around various client

facility sites. Office duties include:
  • Data evaluation and interpretation;
  • Developing technical reports or portions of
technical reports, at times under tight deadlines;
  • Technical representation and presentations in front
of clients;
  • Developing and maintaining databases;
  • Developing facilities energy efficiency
improvements, developing distributed generation
opportunities, developing renewable energy projects,
providing energy training, performing design
reviews, analyzing energy and utilities data,
recommending improvements to utility procurement and
operations, and related duties.
  • The candidate should possess the knowledge and
capabilities to perform investigation of Energy
Management Control Systems (EMCS)/ Direct Digital
Control (DDC) systems and to recommend and implement
advanced control strategies.
  • Identify energy conservation opportunities and help
facilitate the implementation of projects,
initiatives, and programs that reduce energy
consumption and demand, save money, and help the
  • Project support duties, including daily
communication with team members; daily meetings to
coordinate work efforts to feed work seamlessly,
document deliverable management; securing qualified
resources to meet project objectives; procuring
subcontractors when necessary; and meeting or
exceeding client expectations.
Field work can be strenuous and with long days. It would

include the following capabilities:
  • Must be capable of managing onsite personnel
including subcontractors to adapt to changing field
conditions and still meet the objectives of the
  • Roughly 30% travel required which will include
overnite stays of up to a week at a time.

Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in
energy auditing, commissioning and/or
retro-commissioning engineering; HVAC background;
project development, life-cycle cost analysis, building
controls, and building/system optimization is required.
Previous experience working at Federal /DOD is a plus.
This position requires knowledge of utility information
systems, energy management technologies and metering;
excellent verbal and written communication skills,
analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
proficient computer skills including the use of
spreadsheets; especially Excel, and other database
applications is required. You must be able to manage a
team of people in the field and office to complete
projects as well as be able to mentor staff.
BS in mechanical engineering or energy-related technical
field is required.
This position requires the select candidate to possess a
US citizenship and be able to obtain and maintain a
security clearance. It also requires a motor vehicle
record (MVR) background check.
The work environment will consist of an office
environment as well as frequent field visits in and
around various client facility sites. You must be able
to climb ladders, access roofs, and access narrow
mechanical rooms. In addition you must be capable of
stooping bending, reaching, squatting, and standing for
extended periods. You must be capable of maneuvering
over rough terrain as well as be capable of lifting and
carrying up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible
amount of force constantly to move objects.
