Denver Water is seeking an intern to perform standardized or prescribed engineering or systems support assignments; conduct a variety of water quality and treatment tests; record test data, and may prepare maps, charts, graphs or spreadsheets. Makes mathematical calculations, basic research and collation of information obtained.& To qualify you must be currently attending college as a Junior (Spring 2013) or Senior undergraduate grade level. Students who are seeking a Masters level degree or recent graduates are also encouraged to apply. Position prefers a Civil or Environmental Engineering major. This position will be for a 3 month duration starting in May and ending in August at 30 to 40 hours per week. Position may be extended at management discretion.
The successful candidate will be able to perform the following:
* & Ability to work inside or outside at treatment plants taking measurements and photo documentation.
* & Operates a variety of instruments and test equipment such as field gauges, personal computers, tape measure and capturing information with digital camera.
* & Ability to work in an office environment with good computer skills and ability to complete reports.
* & Performs duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General Course work/knowledge of water treatment plant, pumping, and pipeline design principals. Understanding of chemistry, physics, and higher mathematics including calculus. Working knowledge of hydraulic principals and calculations. Knowledge of computer principles, databases, files and basic hardware and software. Ability to perform software applications using programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and other private and public sector organizations.
EDUCATION: Graduation from high school, supplemented with college level course work in engineering or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: At least three years of experience in a pre-professional engineering or engineering office environment OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIREMENT: Must possess and maintain a valid Class ‚R' Colorado driver's license with no more than 6 points within the last 3 years on the motor vehicle record.
