Competency Level - Contributing – Serve as Assistant Resident Engineer in Rockingham County which will include functioning as a Project Engineer on major highway projects let to contract by the department of transportation. Supervise 15-26 lower level NC DOT employees and CEI employee’s providing engineering control: administer contracts, interpret construction plans, provisions, and specifications; train other employee’s and plan and coordinate and supervise their work. Perform a variety of tasks daily using email and computer to generate correspondence to other state agencies, contractors, utilities, and municipalities. Administer, coordinate and organize pre construction and various other monthly meetings with contractor and utilities involved in day to day work. Correspond and create letters for day to day operations. Employee will be subject to hazards on highways construction sites. Position is subject to work in a five county area, depending on workload.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Possess working knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and construction methods, materials and equipment. Skill in the operation of survey equipment, computer terminals and drafting instruments. Ability to understand, explain and administer contracts; interpret construction plans, provisions, standards and specifications. Train, coordinate and supervise subordinate employees. Communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractor's personnel and the general public. Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Valid NC Driver's License and Safety Toe Shoes are required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina board of examiners for engineers and surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. . .
