The purpose of an Engineer II position is to use technical knowledge, education, training, and talents to improve the operation and performance of EPBs systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify, through analysis and observation, opportunities to improve EPBs systems and processes that result in benefits to our customers.
Design engineering projects which includes developing relaying protection schemes and selecting appropriate hardware or technology to utilize.
Supervise control wiring for substation improvement projects as well as other control-related jobs such as switched line capacitors, electronic reclosers, regulators, automated switches, etc.
Purchase equipment and material required to construct system improvement projects as well as manage material inventory required to maintain system equipment.
Maintain power system equipment used for operation, protection and control.
Perform detailed engineering analysis for issues such as system protection coordination, events that occur on the power system and evaluation of new technology. This includes making decisions and recommendations based on analysis to improve the operations of the system.
Utilize available technology to improve the performance of the electric system by increasing reliability, reducing costs, improving safety, etc.
Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
5+ years of related experience is preferred.
Must possess demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of duties which are often characterized by frequent changes.
Must possess demonstrated ability to deal effectively with customers, contractors and employees.
Must possess demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while working on several projects simultaneously. Must possess demonstrated ability to collect, process, analyze and organize information and make decisions or recommendations based on the analysis.
Must have extremely strong computer skills including databases, spreadsheets and computer-aided design (CAD).
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires both office and field work. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, talk and hear. The job occasionally requires the employee to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
