This position is responsible for analyzing, developing, designing, and supporting implementation of the Transmission Line Engineering Department’s construction projects. Design projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new transmission facilities. Coordinates work to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs. Utilizes a variety of tools and techniques in order to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. Final product is an engineering release package consisting of pertinent drawings and bills of material.
Performs engineering designs on projects ranging from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new transmission facilities. Coordinates work to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs. Directs the work of contract CADD operators to develop construction drawings, for transmission lines, substations and protective coordination schemes.
Analyzes routine engineering scenarios and perform necessary design calculations to comply with applicable codes and sound engineering practices. Applies engineering theory to design physical, functional, and electrical systems. Develops layout drawings, detail drawings, and written construction specifications.
Conducts detailed technical and financial studies and analyzes alternatives to determine proper equipment and/or applications. Prepares, updates and revises design standard construction drawings and one-line/three line schematic diagrams.
Prepares and maintains design standards by soliciting feedback and input and reconfiguring structural, functional, or electrical designs to incorporate user input.
Provides design support to construction personnel during project implementation. Assists construction in troubleshooting and problem resolution and provides on-site support. Modifies designs to address construction problems, environmental circumstances and public concerns.
Directs CADD Operators to ensure timely completion of field revisions/as-builts and return completed drawings to the electronic drawing management systems. Verifies that field modifications will not undermine the integrity of the design and incorporates field modifications into the design documents to ensure configuration control of system components.
Bachelor's degree in engineering (not engineering technology program) from an ABET accredited program or a current PE license is required. An international engineering degree will be considered. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree. 1-3 years engineering experience required. The duties of this position include substantial operation of a motor vehicle. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
Post-Bachelor's degree (ex. Masters' or professional school equivalent). Area of Specialization (Master of Engineering).
