Job Description:
Employee shall communicate effectively with customer hardware engineering contacts and management. Both oral and written communication is required. Employee shall be highly organized and work well within a team environment.

Employee shall have technical familiarity with telecommunications hardware protection and grounding, central office infrastructure and power systems. Ability to use laboratory equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, surge generators, and soldering are required.

Employee shall have ability to follow instructions and to lead technical team and project manage all aspects of conformance testing.

Employee will plan, perform and manage laboratory testing of telecommunications equipment. Equipment such as batteries, servers, radios, and switches will be operated and exposed to various stresses including changing temperature, vibrations, ESD, EMI and lightning surges. Test methods are described in GR-63, GR-1089, GR-4228, GR-3150 and other Telcordia GRs and industry standards.

Employee will generate written test plans based on product technical specifications, GRs and customer contracts. Employee will perform tests on telecommunications hardware and generate verbal and written test reports. Employee will report to customers and management status of test progress. In some instances, failure investigation will be required.

Employee will lead technical team and project manage all aspects of conformance testing for some projects. Employee will work with other technicians and engineers to complete work in accordance with departmental performance objectives. As needed, employee will perform tests in related subject areas such as salt-fog and fire resistance.

Employee will follow approved laboratory procedures and ISO 17025 requirements. Employee will maintain effective records of testing.

Employee will identify areas of improvement, additional work and efficiencies for laboratory operations, implement them or suggest changes to management to improve operations.

Works on problems of moderate scope/complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action. Responsible for contributing to the completion of specific programs, projects and commitments established for the work unit while operating under the general direction of a manager.

Requires specific knowledge of profession differentiated by skills, education, experience, level of complexity and degree of autonomy. Typically requires a BS degree with 4-6 years of experience in product planning and knowledge of evaluation methods in the design, development, and debugging of software programs; 2-4 years experience with an MS.

Employee shall have a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with strong hardware focus. Employee shall have expertise in telecommunications network infrastructure including central office bonding and grounding, power plants, and lightning protection. Employee shall have experience in Electrical Protection, Surge, Power Fault, EMC, ESD, Vibration, Shock, and Thermal testing. Employee shall demonstrate ability to generate test plans, perform tests on telecommunications hardware and generate reports. Employee shall have a thorough Understanding of NEBS requirements, laboratory procedures and ISO 17025 requirements.

Employee should be familiar with Adobe Framemaker, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Employee should have ability to present and train others on technical aspects of NEBS, protection and battery GRs.

Unix, Solaris and networking skills are helpful to employee.
