Northrop Grumman Information Systems Sector is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team of qualified individuals. The position will be located in Fairfax, VA. The software engineer will be responsible for to refine the design of the data mart schema and lead a team of Cognos and ETL developers to develop, test, and implement and maintain the new data mart utilizing the full life-cycle software methodology implemented in the Defense Travel System.

The software engineer designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met. Follow detailed lifecycle processes, utilizing best practices for configuration control and development practices.

The data mart engineer will lead the development of new ETL jobs using the COTS tool, Talend, to populate the new data mart, design Power Play cubes, and construct dashboards and reports in Cognos. Additionally, the data mart architect will be responsible for performance tuning, and ensuring the architecture is equipped for future expansion. This position will take direction from and report to the Project Manager.

The data mart engineer is expected to have the basic technical qualifications necessary to fill this position. The person in this position will lead 2 ETL Java developers and 3 Cognos developers to take the newly designed data mart through the development lifecycle, all the way to the Production Readiness Review. Candidates must have experience implementing a brand new data mart/ data warehouse project in a corporate IT environment as well as maintenance/sustainment experience. Experience building ETL jobs using Talend is preferred, but not required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with little supervision are required. The applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to gain access to sensitive information. They will work closely with the multiple teams to include: engineering, requirements, testing, and operations.

Responsibilities include:
Translate client user requirements into technical architecture vision and implementation plan

Design and develop the architecture for all data mart components, e.g. tool integration strategy; source system data ETL strategy, data staging, movement and aggregation; information and analytics delivery; and data quality strategy

Design of the data mart data storage strategy/technique (ODS, EDW, DM, ROLAP, MOLAP, etc.)

Design of data mart subsystem (e.g. QA/QC, ETL and Query metrics)

Provide hardware recommendations, sizing and configuration

Create RDBMS schema, configure and tune the Data Mart to ensure optimal performance

Provide oversight and/or coordination of system and performance testing phase

Facilitate issue resolution


Basic Qualifications:
All candidates will demonstrate strong independent problem solving, troubleshooting, analytical and conceptual skills; able to manage multiple tasks and meet scheduled dates. The candidate must be able to adapt in a rapid changing environment, a fast learner and self-starter. Excellent written and communication skills and can work independently and well within groups. To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Candidates must be US Citizens

Must be able to obtain a security clearance

Must be able to obtain a DoD Common Access Card

Candidate must have a Bachelor Degree and a minimum of 9 years experience in Software Development or a Masters Degree and a minimum of 7 years experience in Software Development or a PhD Degree with 4 years experience in Software Development. An additional 4-years experience and/or specialized training may be substituted for the Bachelor Degree requirement, or an additional 2-years experience if you have an Associate Degree.

A minimum of 6 years experience working on large scale data warehouses using Oracle

A minimum of 6 years of relevant consulting experience preferred or 8 years of corporate IT

A minimum of 3 years data modeling skills (i.e. conceptual, logical and physical model design – with both traditional 3rd normal form as well as dimensional modeling (star, snowflake), experience with Operation Data Stores, Enterprise Data Warehouses and Data Marts

A minimum of 1 year performing pro's and con's of multiple warehouse architectures

A minimum of 5 years experience with Oracle 10g RDBMS

A minimum of 2 years experience in data load design strategies and optimization techniques

A minimum of 3 years of Implementation experience with ETL concepts and tools.

A minimum of 2 years implementation experience with Cognos or other large scaled BI reporting tools
