Northern Region Operations Traffic Engineering Section is seeking a highly qualified individual to provide Traffic Engineering support for roadway design, construction, maintenance, and land development proposals through review and analysis of the impact on existing and future traffic conditions in the Northern Virginia road network. Incumbent in this position will conduct on site reviews of project work zones and land use permit operations adjacent to and occupying public roadways. Serve as project review team member by reviewing plans for state and locality future projects, identifying traffic related items and conditions for omitted or unclear traffic or safety engineering details. Provide oral and written guidelines for future plan development. Review and revise submitted Maintenance of Traffic control plans (MOT), Transportation Management Plans (TMP) and Signage and Pavement Marking plans as developed by VDOT projects, consultants, permit applications and others. Review shop drawings submitted by construction projects, and others for compliance with plans, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD), and VDOT specifications and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Thorough working knowledge of work zone traffic control principles and current practices, standards and regulations; of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); and of Virginia Work Area Protection Manual. Working knowledge traffic engineering principles and current practices, standards and regulations. Proven ability to prepare technical reports and recommendations, and communicate effectively orally and written. Working knowledge of standard office and Traffic Engineering software including CADD. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Ability to read/interpret roadway construction plans; to prepare technical reports and recommendations. Ability to work in a fast paced, urban environment. High School education/GED and valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of agency policies and procedures. Experience working in a traffic engineering environment. Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to successfully fulfill the position requirements.

Special Requirements

Position requires unrestricted mobility and ability to perform bending, standing and frequent lifting up to 25 lbs. Valid Driver's license required. Fingerprint based background check, references, work history, and DMV driving records will be verified. Statement of Economic Interest required at time of hire and annually. All employees are required to work during emergency operations, which may include work outside normal work hours; assignments may vary based on business needs.
