Highly responsible and accountable position performing the field portion of the County-wide stormwater mapping initiative. Operates highly specialized survey equipment.
Essential Job Functions:
Investigates and prepares reports on citizen complaints that pertain to compliance with County ordinances. Provides site inspections, sampling of stormwater and other related duties required under the NPDES MS4 permit. Operates portable GPS hardware in support of County stormwater mapping projects. Works with GIS technicians to import the collected data into the GIS database. Schedules work independently with little supervision. Performs surveys for the department when required. Supports the stormwater department in the field during flood events. Meets with citizens and resolves complaints. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate specialized survey equipment or to learn use quickly. Knowledge of survey work. Ability to prepare reports. Ability to plan and schedule with little supervision. Familiarity with ESRI software. Ability to operate robotic total stations.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 LBS. Require standing, walking, bending, stooping, and sitting. Works indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. College level work in civil engineering or drafting technology preferred. Five years experience in the inspection, construction or surveying of drainage projects. A comparable amount of directly related experience MAY be substituted at the County’s discretion for the minimum educational requirements if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position as posted.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.
