ENGINEERING SPECIALIST – STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
The incumbent in this position serves as the engineering expert for the Structural Engineering discipline within Fossil Engineering and Support. The Engineering Specialist reviews and approves specifications, calculations and designs, consults with and advises team engineers on design issues, and establishes discipline design philosophy. The Engineering Specialist serves as mentor for new employees. Incumbents are classified as Engineering Specialists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent will:
Provide structural engineering expertise to Luminant’s fossil Generation fleet.
Apply sound engineering judgment, proficiency, and knowledge to assess plant equipment/structures and to identify and resolve plant operational and maintenance issues.
Manage Luminant’s Structural Integrity Program.
Direct OEMs, vendors, suppliers, and inspectors to establish design basis and optimal operational and maintenance approaches.
Direct Risk Based Inspection Specialists inspection scope.
Direct development of corrective action plans associated with equipment issues.
Support asset and project management in all phases of projects from bid specification and evaluation of new equipment/systems, project conceptual scope development, risk analyses, plus troubleshooting and upgrade evaluations on existing systems.
Conduct frequent assessments of component health & risk.
Develop technical specifications for plant equipment.
Lead feasibility and technical recommendations to improve the reliability and/or performance of plant equipment/systems. Continuously improve positive working relationships within FGS.
Minimal background and knowledge requirements :
Qualifications sought in successful candidates include the following:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (structural)
A Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and
Eight years experience in fossil power plant design, construction, operations or maintenance
Preferred background and knowledge requirements :
A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) and Professional Engineer’s License (Texas).
Ten years experience in engineering related to the power industry
Ten years experience directing architect-engineers
Hands-on experience managing complex, high cost or highly visible projects
Hands-on experience with scheduling software
Hands-on experience with multi-year budgeting process
