The Engineering Technical Leader - Traction Motors will guide and assist work groups to meet assigned objectives in new products, design improvements in current traction motors used in locomotives, Off highway and Drill applications. In this role, you will also help design teams on technical subject matters related to design calculations, analysis and design validation procedures with your design, analysis experience or expertise.
In addition, you will:
Design guidance on new electro-mechanical machines or components for Locomotive, Off Highway Vehicle (OHV), or drill applications; the equipment includes industrial alternators, traction motors, and ventilation devices designed to meet specific requirements
Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
Meet the program deliverables, be responsible for verification and validation of the new machine designs
Coordinate with manufacturing, test labs, and sourcing teams on the new component introduction to meet customer requirements
Perform design and tolerance stack up calculations to meet product performance with manufacturing variations
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments
Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Ensure proper documentation of technical data is generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Develop new technologies, design procedures, validation test documentation to meet the traction motors performance and durability requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the design of Off-highway, Locomotive, Drill Motors or similar industrial machines such as electrical drive systems, alternators, traction motors, or ventilation equipment

Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of experience designing industrial electro-mechanical machines
Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems knowledge
Working Knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), MSHA and other national or international safety requirements
Strong understanding of electrical machines theory and application
Proficiency with engineering tools related to Stress analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Torsional Vibration Analysis such as Ansys, Fluent, Unigraphics, or equivalent
Experience in Six Sigma tools and generating DFMEAs of components, subsystems using P-diagrams
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Personal Computer (PC) tools proficiency
