ARCADIS seeks a quantitative Environmental Fate Scientist/Modeler to support our growing Crop Protection Product modeling group based in our Syracuse, NY office. Our group has an immediate need for an energetic, creative, and mathematically minded individual to conduct high quality quantitative assessments involving statistical analysis, aquatic and terrestrial modeling, and GIS. The successful candidate will collaborate with ARCADIS multi-national experts across a broad range of disciplines to develop scientifically-sound solutions for our clients' most complex product safety issues.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Fate and transport modeling of agrochemicals in the US, Canada, and Europe
  • Analysis of spatial data using ArcGIS
  • Computer programming, database management, and tool development to streamline analyses for internal/external users
  • Review and evaluation of regulatory guidance and open literature
  • Rigorous scientific report writing
  • Scope, schedule, and budget development
  • Dissipation kinetics assessments for agrochemicals in the US, Canada, and Europe
  • Statistical analysis, including geostatistics, hypothesis testing, time-series analysis, background assessments, etc.
  • Population modeling support to senior ecologists
  • Prioritization and completion of multiple tasks within schedule and budget
  • Collaboration on interdisciplinary project teams with individuals at all grade levels
  • Development and presentation of papers at scientific conferences and technical exchanges/seminars
  • Participation in meetings with project managers, clients, and regulators
The ideal candidate will have the previous experience with: fate and transport modeling of agrochemicals (e.g., PRZM, EXAMS, EXPRESS, LEACHP, BASINS, SWAT, SWMM, PEARL, PELMO), computer/database programming (e.g., Visual Basic, C, Fortran), dissipation kinetics following FOCUS guidelines, demonstrated proficiency with quantitative software (MS Excel/Access, ArcGIS, SYSTAT, R, SigmaPlot, SAS, or similar). In addition, superior written and oral communication skills are preferred.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum years of experience: 5 years of fate and transport modeling of agrochemicals experience
  • Education required: BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry or closely related field
  • Skills required: Previous experience managing scopes, schedules and budgets for projects and work tasks
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Years of experience preferred: 5-8 years of experience
  • Education preferred: MS or PhD in related field
  • Skills preferred: excellent quantitative skills related to statistical analyses, data management and modeling, experience with EPA, PMRA, or European FOCUS models, scientific computer programming (e.g., VBA, SQL, R, C++, python, java)
  • This position does require travel. Travel amount is negligible.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position.
  • This position does not manage others.
