Provide operational support to the Aquatic Weed Control Program ; see www.ncwater.org . Conduct aquatic weed control field operations such as mixing and applying herbicides, introducing biological control agents, performing aquatic weed surveys and assessments. Responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of field equipment (gas powered engines, high pressure sprayers, boats and trailers). Employee will assist with developing herbicide prescriptions for projects that involve the management of submersed aquatic vegetation. Overnight travel required on an average of 3 nights per week through the season.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Applicant must have strong mathematical, map reading, and computer skills. Applicant must be physically fit, able to lift 50 pounds, able to swim, and able to work outdoors for long periods of time in summer conditions. Employee will be required to work with and around herbicides; much of this work will be applying aquatic-use-herbicides from boats. Prefer applicant with strong mechanical aptitude, tow years of experience in outdoor work, small boat operation and maintenance, towing trailers, and surveying skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. . . .
