Title: Epic IT Application Analyst - Ambulatory
Location: UC Health Business Center
Hours: 40 hours per week
Shift: 1st shift
Position requires expertise and knowledge in system development and support as it relates to the UC Health Epic Application. Activities with this type of support will include, but not limited to; documenting solutions and alternatives for problems/issues that occur, execute efficient and effective design changes to the application, and perform required testing of software changes to minimize the risk to the application, while maintaining UC Health IT and Corporate Standards.
Position also requires the individual to be able to effectively interact with ends user in developing solid solutions that will enhance the use of the Epic Application. They will accomplish most of this through tailoring of the Epic master files and will need to build an extensive understanding of the Epic tailoring options that are available.
In addition, the person filling this role should also be able to estimate work effort and maintain project milestones/timelines as it relates to IT assignments. When any milestone/timeline is not being met, escalation should occur within the appropriate channels. Tracking accurate modification to the Epic application is essential to being successful in the role. In addition, effectively and efficiently monitoring and updating Incidents and Work Orders that have been assigned through UC Health IT Tracking System.
The individual filling this role will be required to facilitate end user meetings and have the ability to drive to a consensus within user groups. Overall, they will need to display actions that result in high customer satisfaction with implementing effective process improvements for the customer. Applicants must also have effective written and verbal communication skills.
ROLE SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Support and Maintain the Epic Application for UC Health Ambulatory Departments (Primary Care and Specialty Departments)
Maintain an ability to build and configure the navigation components within the text-based Clinical Administration side of Epic. Ability to fully understand the Epic’s facility structure and staff-related concepts such as it relates to user logins and security. Understand the managing of users’ access to Epic functionality through Security classes, enhancing their general Hyperspace experience through Role and Profile records, and customizing their tools based on clinical context through Navigators and Workflow Engine Rules. Maintain and ability to understand and build Ambulatory-specific master files for setting up system procedures and medication orders, immunizations, preference lists, Health Maintenance decision support, and result message routing for new, incoming results. Maintain an expertise of Epic’s order transmittal process.
Understand the detail of the office visit workflow (rooming the patient, reviewing the chart, placing orders, writing a note, etc.) and clinical patient-related phone call workflows. In Basket messaging to support clinical workflows, how to use and build Epic’s documentation tools (SmartTools), how to use and build the BestPractice Advisory decision support tool, and how to use and do simple editing of Reporting Workbench reports to run queries on defined subsets of patients.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Two or more years of experience with computer applications (programming, analysis, or end user with demonstrated understanding of application) in a PC or mainframe environment preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Strong application orientation and organizational skills are required. Must have specific knowledge of data collection procedures and data management. Must have ability to interpret application specifications for functional use. Ability to write, develop, and document operational procedures, and test software release. Functional knowledge of healthcare including clinical, financial or operations preferred. Must have strong customer service skill and serve as liaison to the users and management. Must be able to work in a changing environment. Must have excellent communication skills -- oral and written -- and demonstration of effectively working within a team.
Certified in Epic Ambulatory Module 2010 Preferred
Person accepting this position will be required to obtain and maintain an Epic Module Certification as required by the position.
