- a leading highway, heavy, and municipal contractor - is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented ESTIMATOR/PROJECT MANAGER as an addition to our growing operations in Dickinson (ND) with work focused in Grading & Asphalt Paving. Some travel will be required - mostly within a 300 mile radius of Dickinson.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Estimating and Project Management:

Private Work: measure areas; submit quotes; meet with utility locates; verify and estimate survey/grade; schedule with owners and foremen; track costs and invoice work

City Work: bidding process; scheduling with engineers and foremen; meet with utility locates; verify and estimate survey/grade; process sub-estimates; project final

Urban Projects: bidding process; submit schedule to engineers; schedule with foremen; hold weekly construction meetings; process sub-estimates; project final

Winter Work: measure stockpiles; materials inventory; year-end reports; check if all miscellaneous work was invoiced and received; check on contracted work pay estimates and sub-estimates; compile carryover work list and dollar volume
  • Bid and project manage state, county, city, and private projects:
    • Order bid bonds
    • Comply with DBE/Civil Rights requirements
    • Inspect project site being bid and produce bid documents
    • Assist with the preparation of subcontracts and purchase orders
    • Produce and update schedules for managed projects
    • Set-up pre-construction conference
    • Order materials and schedule aggregate crushing operations
    • Work with testing laboratory in the production of all mix designs required for project
    • Assist with testing (work with testing personnel in various capacities)
    • Work with subcontractors, ensuring all required material certifications and payrolls are being timely submitted
    • Review pay estimates and sub-estimates
    • Monitor field operations
    • Project Final
  • Analysis of publications and perform Internet research on upcoming projects to bid in various states
  • Monitor competitors (location of competitor projects versus location of Northern's projects)
  • Yearly updates on various programs (e.g. patching, paving, and sealing)
  • Public Relations / organize various functions
  • Assist in billing out private work invoices
  • Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all project-related information
  • Regular attendance at the workplace and/or project site is required
  • Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates
Physical Requirements – Ability to walk on uneven ground, climb, reach, grasp, manipulate objects, perform keyboarding and data input, use a telephone and/or communication equipment, perform light lifting, kneel, squat, and sit for extended periods of time.

Education/Experience –
  • Bachelor Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Prefer three (3) years minimum Estimating/Project Management experience
  • Require direct experience in asphalt paving construction activities
Computer Skills -
  • Microsoft Excel (advanced experience)
  • Microsoft Project (some experience preferred but not required)
