Job Description Overall Results Expected To produce accurate and timely architectural, structural, civil / site estimates for projects at all phases of design and completion. To engage successfully in value engineering activities, enabling us to deliver the desired outcomes to an Owner within a budget that the project can support.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Read and understand civil, architectural and structural drawings, plans and specifications for assigned projects
  • Analyze drawings, specifications and reports to ensure that project scope is appropriately represented
  • Perform accurate and timely quantity take-offs on drawings for projects in all phases ranging from conceptual to construction documents; ensure that all take-off data is entered into the Timberline system
  • Through networking in our vendor and subcontractor community, stay current with market based pricing for labor and materials
  • Establish accurate pricing of estimates, including establishing costs for labor, material and subcontracted items
  • Act as point of contact for bidders and potential bidders on assigned projects
  • Interface regularly with engineers and architects to clarify design intent on assigned projects
  • Provide trade contract values and constructability information to project managers, executives and clients
  • At all project phases, from conceptual to full construction documents, perform value engineering and estimate reconciliation activities to bring project within budgetary parameters
  • Assist division leadership in landing new business by participating as a member of the project team at marketing or business development presentations
  • Represent the company at project progress meetings; collaborate with the Project Manager, the Architect, the Owner and others and provide recommendations on construction issues that arise in the course of the project
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned in support of our companys effort to achieve client loyalty.

  • Four year degree in Engineering (Civil preferred) or Construction Management
  • Minimum two years hands-on experience in the commercial construction field (Electrical or Mechanical preferred) with practical experience in estimating large, complex commercial projects
  • Ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Demonstrated excellence in problem solving; ability to view a problem or issue from multiple perspectives, evaluate options, often with limited information and make effective decisions
  • A demonstrated commitment to exceeding client expectations in the delivery of quality, cost-efficient and timely service
  • A strong detail orientation and a commitment to producing work that is accurate the first time
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks demanding of immediate attention, and to juggle multiple, on-going, concurrent responsibilities
  • Commitment to integrity and ethical behavior
  • Excellent verbal communication skills both one-on-one and in speaking before a group; strong written communication skills are also required with the ability to independently produce clear reports and documentation
  • Competency in the following computer programs: MS Word, MS Excel; prior experience in estimating program is a plus
