The Executive Director works collaboratively with HVI Medical Director and the Vice Chief of Clinical Operations as a triad leadership team. Together they collaborate with the physician leadership, program managers, management, nursing, and clinical staff to define strategies, business issues and performance improvement opportunities for the cardiovascular services. The Executive Director manages the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) Department, business development, operational, and financial oversight. The Executive Director evaluates the operational performance of the Heart and Vascular Institute and collaborates with physician leaders, clinical and management staff to identify opportunities to enhance quality, improve the patient experience, increase patient throughput, decrease costs, and increase the contribution margin. The Executive Director works with the Department of Quality, physician leaders, and hospital staff to ensure that the overall operation is in compliance with policies and all relevant Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies, and JCAHO Standards. The primary areas of responsibility for this service line include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Program development and leadership
2. Strategic planning and business development
3. Medical staff development and relationships
4. Financial accountability including benchmarking and payor relations
5. Market share development/Marketing/Community networking
6. Quality/Case management
7. Customer Relations
A Master's degree in Health Care or Business Administration. Minimum five (5) years senior management experience. Proven facilitative leadership skills, strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Financial Acumen. Must have financial skills to do extensive analytical analysis regarding cost reductions and revenue enhancements. Proven analytic and strategic planning capabilities developing and facilitating service lines. Must have written and implemented strategic, business, and performance improvement plans. Proven skills in facilitating service lines. Must have extensive knowledge of healthcare trends, especially trends and issues related to cardiovascular services. Must be able to integrate market, competitor, operational and financial information to create SWOT analysis and formulate business strategies. Experience must include successful program planning implementation, evaluation, budget preparation/ management, and physician relations. Must have strong market analysis skills including assessment of referral patterns, market share data analysis, and opportunity assessments. Must be able to understand quality and efficiency metrics and indicators. Must have demonstrated expertise in managing cardiovascular services. In addition, s/he must have comprehensive business development and program administration knowledge. Must know JCAHO, Title XXII, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation related requirements. S/he must have in-depth awareness of current trends in the healthcare industry, especially trends and issues related to cardiovascular services. Must be familiar with California healthcare industry issues and California regulations. Must be able to work with diverse health and administrative professionals at all organizational levels and have demonstrated excellent leadership and management skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as demonstrated effectiveness in dealing with physicians, nursing professionals, staff, patients, payers, and community contacts. Must have excellent interpersonal facilitation and team/consensus building skills, including the ability to facilitate challenging situations, involving competing interests, and high-level multi-disciplinary groups. Must be effective in influencing others with and without having direct lines of authority. Must have effective presentation skills. Must have effective computer skills, including spreadsheets, word-processing, graphics and clinical systems. Project/program development, implementation and administrative skills are critical. Must have analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to effectively engage others to identify and work toward common goals.
