The Executive Director of Public Affairs reports to the Vice Chancellor for University Relations and is responsible for furthering the strategic goals of the campus by directing and managing media relations, government relations and special events initiatives, as well as other communications projects. The Executive Director will work closely with the Vice Chancellor and the leadership of the Office of University Relations, including those responsible for print and web-based communications, marketing and community and cultural affairs. The Executive Director will help shape programs and initiatives aimed at all external and internal audiences to support recruitment, advancement and a positive public image for the campus. This is a full-time, benefited position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in communications or similar field
-At least 10 years' experience in public affairs/public relations, including experience in each of the following areas:
-Strategic communications
-Event management
-Media relations
-Government relations
-Leading large-scale, high visibility projects
-Management of communications staff
-Excellent oral and written communication skills including strong grammatical and editing skills
-Strong project management skills
-Experience and knowledge of new media techniques
-Knowledge of public higher education issues
-The ability to work effectively with diverse groups

Preferred Qualifications:
-Master's degree in communications, public relations or similar field
-Relevant experience in higher education
