The Exhibit Prototyper/ Tech Studio Manager will be responsible for creating exceptional exhibit pilots and prototypes, and managing The Tech Studio prototyping space and FabLab.
Responsibilities or Duties
Engineer and fabricate complex exhibit pilots and prototypes using digital manufacturing techniques including; 3D Modeling, CNC Routing and Milling, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, InkJet Printing, and Arduino Programming as well as conventional tools.
Rapidly iterate the above pilots and prototypes based on visitor response, in a public prototyping studio on the museum floor, The Tech Studio.
Document the prototype engineering and fabrication process (drawings, code, photo, video, etc.) for reference by exhibit engineers and final exhibit fabricators.
Maintain the equipment, tools, supplies, safety, and orderliness of The Tech Studio.
Assist in the development and facilitation of workshop programming related to making, hacking, circuit bending, crafting and more.
Requirements or Key Qualifications
Degree in science, engineering or design or equivalent professional experience.
Skilled crafsperson familiar with both digital and conventional fabrication equipment.
Proficient in 3D modeling, Inventor (preferred), Solidworks, Vectorworks, or SketchUP Pro.
Experience mantaining fabrication equipment.
Experience monitoring and ordering supplies.
