Food Service Worker I (Part-Time)

WORK HOURS: VARIED FOUR-HOUR (4-HOUR) SHIFTS ON A ROTATING BASIS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 5:00 AM AND 9:00 PM OR 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
The Food Service Worker I does routine entry level food service work on a designated full or part-time shift in the Central Kitchen and/or at a satellite area under the general supervision of the designated supervisor. Work involves preparing, portioning, distributing and serving food for regular and therapeutic diets; and, sanitation of equipment, work areas, dishes, utensils and pots and pans. Other duties may be required that are reasonably related to the essential or marginal functions of the positions. Maintains sufficient knowledge of duties and related work to satisfy the requirements of the job. Handles food in accordance with federal, state and HACCP guidelines. Follows safety procedures and practices for kitchen and food service work. Works under close supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and judgment. Must understand that duties, location of work and shift patterns are subject to change as determined to meet the needs of this facility. Must understand that the duties may include exposure to blood or other potential infectious materials. May work unusual or extended hours in the event of a disaster and/or operational necessity. Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Supports the mission and vision of the facility.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Serves meals to patients following menu guides and diet instructions. 30%
Maintains a clean and sanitary work area following departmental sanitation guidelines. 40%
Prepares food items in the dining room for patient meals, snacks and feedings following all departmental guidelines concerning preparation and sanitation. 15%
Performs all lifting aspects of the job duties as needed. 5%
Assists stock clerks in receiving deliveries to food service department. 5%
Performs other duties as assigned in order to ensure services are provided. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. 5%

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of food preparation methods.
Skill in the operation, cleaning, and sanitizing of food service appliances and equipment.
Ability to prepare and serve food; to clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas; and to maintain basic records.
Bilingual preferred.
Sign Language preferred.

None

Initial Selection Criteria:
Completion of the 8th grade.
