Job Summary Statement:
Two faculty positions specializing in English Composition for Pueblo Community College's English/Communications Department. This position requires a minimum of a master’s degree in English or related field. Faculty should be knowledgeable in composition and literature. This position requires experience and working knowledge of common PC programs including Microsoft Office components (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), Outlook, and this position requires experience and/or willingness to adopt classroom technology. Faculty will be expected to prepare/plan and teach several different English courses and teach classes at various dates/times per the department schedule, to include evening, weekend, and special length courses. Faculty will provide classroom or related instruction under the supervision of the department chairperson. Faculty are required to observe campus, division and department policies/procedures, advise students, attend professional development, and serve on committees. Two or more years of teaching experience in a community college is preferred.

The incumbent in this job is expected to assist the College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.

Essential Functions:

Teaches English courses as assigned within faculty work load guidelines and meets all scheduled classes unless the class has been canceled or with the permission of the Chairperson. Must attend all scheduled department, division, or college meetings. Faculty may also serve as a substitute within the program for absent colleagues for short-term absences.

Maintains regularly scheduled office hours (a minimum of five per week) for consultation or advisement with students.

Develops and implements curriculum and effective teaching strategies in an effort to meet the department and state standards for basic skills courses.

Provides adequate preparation of the course material used in assigned courses and utilizes the approved text and/or assigned materials. Faculty will ensure that adequate supervision is provided to students under instructor’s assignment, and faculty will provide adequate classroom management in conjunction with department, division, and PCC policies.

Is available for duty during orientation, advising, and registration periods during the academic year. To include extended office hours and/or unusual dates/times.

Faculty will support programs that are targeted at diverse student populations (i.e.: career changers, Early College, Gateway Learners current professionals, traditional college students, etc.).

Responsible for adhering to all laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations which govern and affect the College. This includes the Fiscal Rules of the State of Colorado.

Assists in the implementation of the approved program curriculum; knowledgeable of program standards, and strive to meet those standards with available resources. Assists in the program recruitment process, as appropriate.

Commit to working as a team member and assist Department Chairperson with program operations, scheduling, and other miscellaneous assignments, such as assisting with or leading student clubs and/or special events.

Assists in Accountability Progress Reports, Assessment of student learning projects, program reviews, and evaluation processes required by internal-external sources.

Serve on faculty and college committees and task forces.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Experience will be based upon a full-time, 40-hour work week. Part-time experience will be pro-rated. Part-time teaching experience will be based on a ratio of 36 credit hours = 1 year of experience.

Education:
Master’s degree in English or related field

Experience:
Experience teaching English at a community college or university.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated technology skills and ability to learn institution specific technology.

Experience:
Two years of teaching experience at a community college or university in English.

Demonstrated experience working with faculty in higher education

Demonstrated experience working with committees in higher education

Demonstrated experience working with curriculum development.

Demonstrated experience employing interactive learning methods in the classroom.

Salary Information

$35,000 base salary, plus additional compensation based on education and experience. In addition to salary, PCC offers an excellent benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement.
