Position Overview:
The Field Development Horticulturalist / Agronomist (FDH) manages and implements the production of crops required for field testing and demonstration programs within their specified geographical territory that supports the US-research and development programs and Sales Teams and their customers. All responsibilities are at the territorial level. This position is based in Bradenton, Florida.

Principle Responsibilities

Manager of all crop production practices to support field research and sales demonstration programs. Primary focus on vegetable production, but will be responsible for citrus and row crops.

Understands all production practices for commercial vegetable production in Florida, to include, but not limited to land preparation, utilization of plastic mulch, irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and knowledge of varieties adapted to south Florida.

Assists in the development of project plans that meet technical objectives and business timelines.

BS in Horticulture. Or related field or equivalent. Previous farming, agricultural research, or agrochemical company experience is highly desirable.

2 - 5 years’ experience in vegetable crop production in Florida.

Strong interest in hands-on experimental field trial work.

All applicants must be eligible to work in the USA.

Ability to lift objects up to 50-lbs.

Knowledge and practical experience of local agricultural cropping systems, pests, and production practices and crop maintenance.

Knowledge and practical experience with irrigation, with a strong emphasis on drip irrigation and fertigation.

Knowledge and practical experience with production equipment required in vegetable production. Experience with general maintenance and repair of equipment.

Knowledge and practical experience in calibrating spray equipment (boom sprayers and airblast) and fertilizer applicators.

Knowledge and practical experience with vegetables varieties (to include, but not limited to tomato, pepper, cucurbits, beans, sweet corn, lettuce, brassicas) grown in Florida to include fertility, water management, pest management, and general production practices.

Individual must be flexible to changing work requirements and adaptable to adverse weather conditions including the ability to work outdoors in Florida year round. Conditions are often dirty, dusty, and hot in combination with noisy equipment. Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field or greenhouse. Exposure to high temperatures, sun, rain, and dust.

Ability to identify opportunities for competitive advantage with new and existing production practices in the marketplace.

Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with internal staff, business partners, external customers and key influencers.

Ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Ability and initiative to get results by delivering on commitments and implementing plans and programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to operate and maintain various types of research equipment, to use computers for data management and graphics software for preparation of presentations. Routine duties will include plot establishment and maintenance, data collection, and data entry for statistical analyses. The candidate will have the responsibility of coordinating daily activities of other support personnel including student or intern workers and/or contractors. Candidate will be responsible for the general care and maintenance of the Bradenton Research Facility.
