The purpose of the Field Scientist job is to: (1) plan and implement field research and development programs to validate the performance of candidate transgenic corn and soybean traits for improved agronomic performance; (2) evaluate new technologies and develop innovative water and nitrogen use efficiency testing procedures; and (3) work with cross functional teams to prioritize and test lead concepts and product candidates. The Field Scientist develops and maintains effective relationships with University, academic and private research collaborators, key internal stakeholders, and other centers of influence; and characterizes new product concepts through self-initiated field trials as well as cooperative research.
Plan and implement field research programs to validate the performance of early stage transgenic concepts and new technologies in development.
Develop and employ novel field testing techniques for field stress screening and new product development.
Establish research relationships with University, extension and consultant cooperators.
Provide direct technical support to the Dow AgroSciences cross functional Discovery and germplasm development teams.
Delivery and interpretation of high quality data enabling rapid, high-quality decisions for product Discovery and Development teams.
Conduct regulated field trials in compliance with DAS stewardship programs.
The location of this job is in Fresno, CA.
A Ph.D. degree in Plant Physiology, Crop Physiology, Agronomy, Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Genetics and Breeding, or related Biological Science is desired
An in-depth knowledge of the theories and practices of agricultural science and a demonstrated proficiency in conducting and publishing refereed research is expected.
A working knowledge of agronomic production practices, crop physiology, crop protection, biotechnology, molecular biology and/or plant genetics would also be to the candidate’s advantage.
A demonstrated ability to transfer technology through scientific presentation and publication.
Practical application of various statistical models and automated data acquisition technology is required.
