DESCRIPTION

Summary:
Mechatronics Engineer -- The persons in these roles are hands-on technicians that install, set up, qualify, and doing tooling/fixture changes on CNC machines in an automated assembly line. The person in this role starts with a basic CNC unit. They install the unit, set it up, level it and add any necessary tools or fixtures (they may also hook up pneumatics or an additional unit such as a wash machine). They will then run the machines through its first passes in a line (such as running an engine block through to be worked upon) so they can calibrate the machines and check the quality of the finished parts. This role is open to candidates with mechanical aptitude who have just started doing this kind of work or have been through a trade program for this kind of work. It is also open to people who have worked at Tier 1 automotive companies such as Detroit Diesel or American Axle who use CNC machines and have the core competencies and can be trained on the specifics. The preference would be for employees who have worked in the automotive tooling industry and have done this sort of work already.

DUTIES

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Confer with customer and supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.
  • Support the assembly, installation, calibration, programming, and service of Comau high-speed CNC machining modules
  • Record and maintain files and records of customer requests, work or services performed,
  • Must be willing to travel to all customer locations up to 75% of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Computers - Knowledge of Word, Excel
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Communication - The ability to effectively communicate through oral and written expression.
  • Time Management - Managing one's own time.
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

Below competencies shall be demonstrated by a dedicated Skill Tests with a senior mechatronic engineer.
  • Mechanical basic knowledge
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and fluidic/electrical/pneumatical schemes.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge and understanding of tolerance stack.
  • Knowledge of main types of metal cutting machining.
  • Basic knowledge of the main types of numerical controls.
  • Basic knowledge for part programs programming.
  • Basic knowledge of tools (ie: Type, Size, Material, RPM & Speeds)
  • Basic knowledge of PLC.
  • Basic knowledge of N.C., PLC, Siemens axis card.
  • Basic knowledge of fluid and pneumatics dynamic.
  • Capable of using tool pre-setter equipment.
  • Capable of reading CMM report and making adjustments to part program or mechanical alignment.
  • Other duties as may be required

Qualifications (Education, Training, Certification, Licenses, Experience):
  • Overall Experience -- At least some experience with CNC machine installation/set up/qualification, work experience with CNC machines is preferred.
  • Education -- At least a high school diploma/GED.
