Fire Recruit is a part-time entry-level position, designed to train incumbents in basic firefighting methods in preparation for promotion to the position of part-time Reserve Firefighter.
The Fire Recruit attends a local Fire Training Academy and receives training in firefighting methods, basic concepts of fire science, equipment and operations, basic emergency medical procedures, hazardous materials and other health and safety topics, chain of command, rules and regulations and other related topics as required. A Fire Recruit is also expected to work shifts as a trainee to gain experience and knowledge of the day-to-day requirements of being a firefighter. Upon satisfactory completion of the required training program, the Fire Recruit will be eligible for promotion to part-time Reserve Firefighter
High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 18 year old
Must live within Josephine County, Oregon Fire Protection Area
Must meet physical fitness standards as set by Rural Metro Fire Department
Valid state Driver’s License
