PERFORMANCE PLANNING

This position is responsible for completely setting up the starter’s position on the Room Service line, assists in assembling patient trays on the Room Service line, loading trays onto delivery carts, occasionally delivering patient carts/trays. Duties also include restocking nourishments and supplies in all unit gallies precisely following inventory sheets, checking expiration dates, and rotating perishable items. This position may also be responsible for serving, restocking, cleaning and sanitation in the cafeteria service and dining areas. When assigned sanitation, this position is further responsible for washing dishes/pots and pans, cleaning, sanitation, and maintaining equipment, and restocking Room Service line. Sanitation will also deliver and pick up carts, empty trash, mop and vacuum floors. Following stringent Health Department and JCAHO protocols and regulations are mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepares food items and supplies needed for assembly of patient trays on the Room Service line.

Accurately assembles patient trays according to the tray ticket for each meal ensuring that the appropriate food and beverage are choices placed on each tray.

Uses the par-level inventory sheets and checks each food galley in all areas and replaces the items and records the items on the galley sheets. Checks expiration dates and rotates all dated and perishable items and discards all out-dated items.

Serves meals to customers in the cafeteria using portion control and restocks items as necessary.

Maintains cleanliness and sanitizing of work area, service and dining areas, i.e. – counters, tray slides, tables, walls, microwaves, sneeze guards, etc. according to procedures.

Washes and sanitizes dishes, silverware, pots and pans, equipment, carts, etc., and keeps dish room area clean.

Vacuums carpets, mops floors, empties trash, pressure washes equipment/floors as needed, and does whatever cleaning is necessary.

Daily takes and records all operating temperatures of equipment according to Health Department and JCAHO standards.

Responsible for active participation in performance improvement standards.

Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.

Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.

Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.

Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

High School graduate or equivalent is preferred. Must be able to understand, interpret, and follow detailed written and oral instructions. Employee must be able to safely operate a variety of food service equipment such as fryers, choppers, ovens, steamers, dish machine, utility washer, etc. Knowledge of food service terminology and extensive hands-on experience using food service equipment is strongly encouraged. For the sanitation position, one year working in a medium to large dish room is preferred. ServSafe class is required and must score a minimum of 75% on the written test. Must be able to read and write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental: May require working in a hot humid environment around food service equipment for most of shift. Will also require going into walk-in refrigerators at < 40 degrees and walk-in freezers at < 0 degrees for extended periods of time; possible risk of injury from sharp objects, hot surfaces, steam, cleaning/sanitizing agents, and moving equipment.

Physical: Medium work. An individual must be able to exert 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10 – 25 lbs. of force frequently on a regular basis. Physical requirements also include the abilities to stand, walk, kneel, sit, or stoop, and reach over head with good balance on wet tile floors for extended periods of time in a loud working environment. Having hands in water/cleaning solutions for maximum amount of time. Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Also must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Psychological: Constantly be able to work in close proximity and communicate well with coworkers. This position will occasionally require interaction with external customers like, doctors, patients and patient families, staff, etc. and occasionally dealing with unpleasant people. Customer service skills are strongly encouraged.
