SUMMARY :
Under general supervision, prepares, serves and stores cold food in all service areas using safe and sanitary techniques. Cashiers, records meals and makes diet changes as requested. Follows cleaning schedule for utensils and work areas. Supports the mission of the hospital while maintaining confidentiality of information and privacy compliance. Accepts patient safety as a key area of focus in job performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Supports the mission of Tri-County Hospital through personal conduct including demonstrated concern for the people of all ages served and co-workers, contribution of ideas and suggestions, helpfulness and friendliness, regular attendance and punctuality and adherence to hospital rules, policies and general expectations.
  • Prepares cold food, adjusts standard recipes and substitutes as necessary to provide efficient food preparation.
  • Serves food to all service areas efficiently following infection control standards.
  • Stores food and equipment in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Cleans work areas, dishes and equipment used in food preparation and service per routine work schedule to provide a sanitary work environment.
  • Follows infection control guidelines, uses good personal hygiene in the performance of daily work.
  • Records meal census, prepares billings as necessary, counts patient menu items and cashiers in the cafeteria to provide for accurate record keeping and cash management.
  • Records and communicates diet changes and phone messages to augment Kardex accuracy and promote departmental communication.

  • COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP :
    No requirement. May voluntarily or serve upon request on hospital committees.

    PREVIOUS EDUCATION AND TRAINING :
    Required : Ability to read, speak and write in the English language.
    Preferred : High school diploma or GED or currently attending high school. Attendance or completion of a commercial food preparation class.

    SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION :
    Attend and participate in mandatory education programs.

    LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION :
    None.

    PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
    :
    Required : None.
    Desired : Institutional or food service work.

    HAZARD EXPOSURE :
    Works with chemicals, some of which recommend use of gloves or protective eye wear. May be exposed to infectious materials and water up to 180° F. For detailed information see the department Material Safety Data Sheet manual.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
    Medium Duty is: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects (based on U.S. Department of Labor data). The following physical activities are required to perform this job:
    Occasionally (up to 33% of work time): standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, smelling, color vision.
    Frequently (34-66% of work time): walking, carrying, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity vision.

    DRESS REQUIREMENTS :
    Employee provided uniform, leather shoes with non-skid soles required. Hair net required in food preparation area. Nail polish and excess jewelry are prohibited. Use of a hospital provided name pin is required.
