The Front Office Clerk is responsible for all front office functions including patient relations, appointment scheduling, telephone duties, patient registration, insurance verification, handling medical records, filing, cashiering, and computer work.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Ensures that the physicians and mid-level practitioners have the necessary information to see patients efficiently.
Works at the reception desk. Greets all patients, family members and others warmly using good customer service skills.
Communicates with patients and providers.
Schedules, cancels, and reschedules patient appointments.
Reminds patients of upcoming appointments and tracks missed appointments.
Answers multiple telephone lines and accurately documents messages.
Forwards telephone calls appropriately and follows up on return calls.
Checks-in patients and properly documents registration.
Verifies insurance and patient demographics and enters information into computer system.
Files medical records.
Retrieves medical records and delivers to appropriate providers or department.
Copies and faxes information.
Collects co-pays and other payments from patients.
Enters charges, payments, and balances the day in the computer.
Follows through with assignments and informs supervisor if unable to complete task.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
Performs related work as required.
Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
High School education is required.
One to two year post high school is preferred.
One year of medical office experience.
Pleasant telephone demeanor.
