The function of this position is to engage in activities occurring in the front office of a busy Rehabilitation Department.
Performs receptionist, scheduling, registration and medical record duties to support departmental operations.
Schedules and cancels patient appointments. Greets patients, families and visitors. Registers patients, verifies data and assists with completing any and all forms. Obtains and updates demographic, billing and third party coverage information. Explains policies and procedures to patients, families and visitors as needed.
Duties include, but not limited to: pulls charts daily for the following days schedule; answers and screens incoming telephone calls; takes accurate and thorough messages; listens courteously and responds to patient questions, concerns, and/or refers to the appropriate individual; faxes documents to referring physicians; printing charge sheet for each therapist; entering charges into Paragon; various statistical entries; filing documents in patient charts;
This position is responsible for completing the registration process on all outpatient rehab patients. This position provides a first point-of-contact for patients and gathers pertinent patient data to facilitate services to the patient, as well as to facilitate receipt of payment to WCHS for the service/procedure. As a part of the registration process, this position generates registration forms and related items and assures that proper signatures are completed on these forms before the patient leaves the area. Responsibilities include obtaining required signatures various legal acknowledgements and performing the compliance check process on all Medicare patients. Collection of payments and accurate posting of payments is also a responsibility. This position will obtain pre-certification and verify insurance benefit information, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications are the minimum qualifications in order to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required. An associate’s
degree in a business or health related field is preferred.
Experience: Preferred qualifications include 6 months to 1 year of experience with insurance benefits and medical terminology or coding. Consideration will also be given to those with experience in accounting related fields. Experience, with demonstrated proficiency, in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel, is desired.
Knowledge/Skills: M ust be able to demonstrate knowledge of medical insurance standards as related to obtaining pre-certification and verification of insurance benefits within initial 90 days of employment. Strong, proactive customer service skills are essential in this role. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with customers in a variety of settings and situations. Must be accurate with data entry, be computer literate and have ability to multi-task. Must be a team player and interact well with other employees.
Extended periods of time sitting and walking, bending and stooping may be required. Ability to do repetitive work, keyboarding and writing. Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time. Has the ability to lift and move 15 pounds. Vision and hearing corrected to normal limits.
MedWest Health System shall endeavor to make starting and quitting times as desirable and convenient as possible; however, the workload shall be the determining factors.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Risk of exposure is minimal, but will have contact with patient while performing the registration process. Patient Registration is a high volume area and requires ability to adapt to a variety of situations.
