Job Opening: Front-End Software Engineer
We are seeking outstanding candidates with a demonstrated track record of innovative thought leadership and implementation discipline.

Your Role As a Front-End Software Engineer, you'll drive the development of our advanced Business Optimization software solutions, aimed at helping business users perform robust quantitative analyses with intuitive ease and integrate advanced quantitative approaches into their operational processes. You will create solutions that will not only be employed by the world's most recognized companies, but will be relied upon to dramatically expand their performance and competitiveness. Working closely with world-renowned mathematicians, engineers, and with executive managers of our Fortune 500 clients and partners in a small team environment, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the rapidly evolving science and technology of quantitative marketing and fact-based, optimal decision making.

At Sentrana, R&D, product development, and client engagement work in lock step – so you'll see the results of your efforts in days or weeks not years. Our heritage is one of entrepreneurship, where individuals' innovative ideas are prized and rapidly re-shape the capabilities of large-scale enterprises. Because you'll be on a small cross-functional team that is responsible for both business and technology decisions, you will have immediate visibility on the relationship between your efforts and the ultimate technology impact that it creates.

Your Responsibilities We are seeking front-end engineers who are able to bring together an outstanding ability to understand user requirements and the objectives of each product feature with the ability to build great web-based client applications. Our solutions are built on open web technologies with most, if not all rendering on the client side. This means that development of our front-end application requires an appreciation for the user experience, a good eye for visual design and usability, and the engineering rigor required to build high performance, modular, Ajax applications.

While your primary orientation will be around front-end development, we are a small organization and you will have the opportunity to work on the service layer as well as the database in some cases, and a good, well-rounded set of experiences across the entire architecture is required for this role.

You will work closely with top-notch scientists and engineers as well as with senior executive level managers of our Fortune 500 clients and partners, and will be responsible for building reliable, highly maintainable and robust application software applying software engineering leading practices.

Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • Develop functioning prototypes for front-end applications at the inception of the development process to help anchor backend development and facilitate requirements refinement.
  • Develop and refine the design for solutions to ensure that they will be sufficiently scalable, maintainable, and flexible to support the requirements for initial release and for future growth.
  • Efficiently develop high quality software components and integrated them into Sentrana's enterprise and consumer solutions.
  • Identify leading practices for the architecture and software design that can be adopted by the development team as implementation progresses.
  • Evaluate the appropriate frameworks and commercial or open source software components for integration into our solutions. For example, selecting front-end grid controls for integration into UIs or selecting appropriate frameworks for mobile web development.
  • Actively engage with others on the development to resolve challenging design and coding problems.
  • Develop common libraries, templates, and utilities that can be leveraged across the development team to accelerate delivery.
  • Actively engage with others on the development to resolve challenging design and coding problems.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience developing web based enterprise solutions or consumer facing online services.
  • Extensive experience developing front-end user interfaces using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS including complex AJAX application using JSON services for communication to the backend.
  • Experience developing mobile web applications.
  • The ability to develop backend services when necessary to facilitate prototyping efforts and full-scale development. While the focus is on the front-end, versatile engineers who can understand the full end-to-end architecture will be the most successful.
  • Expertise in the full lifecycle of software development including development using a structured methodology such as RUP or agile approaches (SCRUM, XP).
  • Understanding of software engineering leading practices. Demonstrated experience on object-oriented design and analysis, practical application of design patterns and code refactoring.
  • Solid understanding of database design and data modeling to ensure that you can explore our existing databases to identify how front-end information maps to the data available and to facilitate troubleshooting issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Mathematics / Engineering or related field.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You will need to be able to communicate complex technical concepts to the US and offshore development team, and communicate status, issues, and risks to the management team.

The following qualifications are desirable, but not required:
  • Proficiency in C# or Java application development.
  • Experience developing native Windows client applications.
  • Experience in both Linux and Windows development environment.

We offer a generous compensation package, including an equity stake, plus a collaborative, tier-one management team. More importantly, we provide an intellectually fertile environment for people to learn, experiment, and grow. Our work focuses on difficult problems that have no easy answers – indeed it is our pursuit and embrace of such problems that inspires the growth of our associates and our enterprise.
