DESCRIPTION

Assists with research and data modeling and support of computer based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for the Cooperative.

DUTIES

  • Performs filed work collecting GPS and other data
  • Compiles data from a wide variety of sources (GPS data, field data, pole inspections data from contractors, equipment databases) for inclusion in the SDE geo database
  • Integrates non-spatial data into the GIS system (e.g. Customer Information from the CIS software)
  • Assists with implementing standards for inputting, maintaining, and accessing GIS data
  • Provides Enterprise GIS database support and maintenance
  • Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
  • GIS Major at an accredited college or significant GIS coursework in progress or completed.
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.

  • Valid Texas Class C drivers license with a good driving record as measured by Mid-South Synergy's criteria.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of ESRI Suite of Products (ArcGIS 9.3.1 and ArcServer 9.3.1)
  • General knowledge of geometric networks.
  • Ability to use Trimble GPS units for capturing GPS data in the field.
  • Knowledge of Pathfinder Office Software for post-processing GPS data.
  • Knowledge of the Internet and ability to develop website documents.
  • Ability to work in the field collecting GPS data and other data verification projects.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret various documents, such as prints, wiring schematics and diagrams.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and the use of computers and computer software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team as needed.
