Georgetown-Scott County, located in the northern Lexington MSA, is offering an excellent employment opportunity in one of the states fastest growing communities, seeking a professional GIS Technician. This position provides data entry and data editing processes to update and maintain a county-wide enterprise geographic information system (GIS). As a member of the GIS team, reporting to the GIS Analyst, this person is expected to edit GIS layers and datasets in an ESRI ArcSDE environment, supporting implementation, coordination, and maintenance of the GIS database. The GIS Technician inputs and updates GIS data from engineering plans, deeds, CAD file submission, and various other documents. Conducts research to correct inaccuracies and assists GIS staff with the maintenance of enhanced 911 records through the approval of new addresses, street names, and address ranges.
The candidate will aid the Planning Commission with general information technology needs, such as basic hardware and software installations, upgrades, and maintenance as needed. The GIS department serves as the IT department for the Planning Commission when required, aids staff with technical expertise and supports the functions of a digital planning office. This person will work with other local government departments to help with the implementation of GIS throughout the county, online, and throughout the typical workflow in development services.
Experience and working knowledge of ESRI products, including ArcGIS 9.3 and above is mandatory. Knowledge of public policy and procedures in local government is preferred. Experience and working knowledge of ArcGIS Server, SQL Server database management, and/or programming is a plus.
Candidate must have good writing and verbal communication skills, and must be able to communicate effectively with engineers, surveyors, developers, property owners, and the general public.

Requirements: Bachelors degree in computer science, geography, GIS or related field is required. Minimum one (1) year of professional experience, including internships, within GIS or a closely related field. A Masters degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
