GIS Technician - Downtown Atlanta
Geographic Solutions and Services (GSS) at Georgia Power (Subsidiary of Southern Company)

Location: 755 Jefferson, St. Atlanta, GA. Candidate must currently reside within a commuting distance to Metro Atlanta OR be able to quickly relocate at his/her own expense. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position .

Job Summary

Distribution GIS (DistGIS) plays a vital role in Georgia Power Company's planned strategic direction and daily operations. The DistGIS database serves as the asset repository for facilities data and drives applications such as TCMS (Trouble Call Management System), and DistView, which are critical to Distribution Operations. This position is responsible for the input, processing, and maintenance of Distribution data in accordance with GSS work procedures and consistent with Southern Company GIS Data strategy. The successful candidate will also be responsible for creating construction prints using Microstation, for internal as well as external customers.

NOTE: Position requires that candidate qualify on the EEI TECH test.

Job Responsibilities

Create work construction prints for internal and external customers using Microstation.
Assist with the reconciliation of materials for Distribution Work Orders
Post updates to the DistGIS database
Process data to support transfer of information between Distribution applications
Maintain high standards for data quality within all applications, including DistGIS
Reconcile database conflicts and take appropriate action to improve database performance

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Associates Degree or Certificate in GIS and/or Microstation 7 or 8i is a plus
Bachelors Degree in GIS or Geography is highly preferred

Experience Requirements

Microstation versions 7 and 8i experience highly preferred
AutoCAD experience is highly preferred
Knowledge of Microstation/AutoCAD reference files, layer control and cells is highly preferred.
GIS experience is highly preferred
Familiarity with DOT plans and electronic files is a plus
Experience with a Utility GIS system is a plus
Experience with the ESRI Suite of GIS products is a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong computer skills in standard software packages (Microsoft Office products, etc.) is required
Ability to work on several different projects simultaneously
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Analytical approach to problem solving
Able to maintain focus on assigned task
Familiar with data manipulation techniques
