Oxfam America (OA) established the Private Sector Department (PSD)in order to channel the creativity, resources, and influence of the private sector to pro-poor ends. As a rare global development organization with private sector capacity, OA is a leader in corporate campaigning, innovative collaborations, and pro-poor private sector development. This position will focus on the private sector aspects of the GROW Campaign.
We are currently offering an unpaid position as a volunteer for a period of 3 months. We offer competitive candidates a unique opportunity to be integrally involved in the inner workings of an international non-profit organization, becoming an integral member of the PSD’s team. This volunteer will have the opportunity to:

The volunteer will work closely with PSD staff to help meet project and department goals. Volunteer assignments will vary, but the core duties are:
Research & Analysis Support
Research on key private sector actors (e.g. agricultural traders, food/beverage companies) in the global food system, including on their policies and practices related to farmland acquisition, food aid, etc.
Provide research support to public policy advocacy efforts on food security (e.g. food aid reform) and climate change adaptation.
Support in development of emerging private-sector partnership/coalition on climate change adaptation
Track down information and sources of evidence
Research current development trends to support department presentations and publications
Research for and development of position papers and other critical mediums for both internal and external audience.
Collate and coordinate comments on research reports and other documents
Project Management Support
Support team members on the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of PSD’s work, as directed
Work as a team with members of staff and other interns on project deliverables
Track and monitor work in progress
Assist with the event planning and conduct of various PSD-sponsored events and programs
Excellent research, writing, communications and analytical skills
Proficiency in computers, including use of Microsoft Office Suite and Internet
Excellent interpersonal skills & ability to work well in a team
Comfort operating in a multi-cultural, international environment
Independent work style requiring minimal supervision
Ability to use discretion, confidentiality, and good judgment
Detail-oriented and organized
Insatiable curiosity about field of international development, corporate responsibility and human rights.
Terms and Conditions
This position is unpaid. You will be expected to attend the office as agreed upon with your supervisor and to apply the same standards of work and professional attitudes as we would expect from a regular OA employee.
