Build statistical models with large datasets to derive meaningful insights that effect actionable business decisions. You are a seasoned statistician who wants to polish your statistical modeling skills in a fast-paced business environment, with a passion for video games. Because you also understand gamers' mindset, you reliably are able to qualitative deduce and draw quantitative conclusions from player behavioral data that directly influence game design, play balance, player retention and marketing approach. Drive exploration and analysis of large, complex data sets representing hundreds of millions of real-world play sessions. Establish the feasibility of critical studies, choosing the right tools and techniques to mine the data in a timely way, iterating on data visualization, and draw quantitative conclusions from player behavioral data that directly influence game design, play balance, and player retention.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop robust statistical models to support immediate and long-term business decisions, and provide recommendations to satisfy business need
Work with game developers to identify key performance metrics and benchmarks related to user behavior, user segmentation, and user retention
Work closely with the live game teams to optimize play balance, game economies, and to identify and close out exploits.
Mine current game data and user trends to inform the production of the next generation of products. Evaluate and quantify the effect of ongoing changes to games through statistical methods
Effectively communicate with other members of the team to build and implement statistical model
Principal Working Relationships:
Director of Studio Analytics and the studio analytics team, the Data warehousing team, and senior game design staff
MS or PhD degree, preferably in Statistics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or related disciplines
Special Knowledge, Skills
(Tools and Technology, Technical Skills)
Proficient use of statistical analysis tools, such as SAS, R, SPSS
Working knowledge of distributed data storage system like Hadoop
Knowledge of other advanced analysis techniques, such as machine learning
Prior Experience/Previous Positions related to current position:
Experience building and validating statistical models with large datasets
Experience with statistical methods like Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, CART,
Experience with reporting/analytics tools like Excel, Access, MySQL as well as a working knowledge of SQL
Principle Component Analysis, Time Series, K-means Clustering, Treenet, etc.
Proven ability to clearly translate statistical modeling results to business stake holders
Strong understanding of the realities of working with large, rich datasets
Demonstrated ability to compromise and improvise while driving for results
Must be committed to finding useful answers to fascinating questions
Able to work and problem solve independently, to organize workload and priorities, and complete tasks on time
Proven ability for high-quality execution, technical innovation/adaptation, and initiative
Avid gamer with a strong interest and knowledge of the video game industry
