Starting wage is $12.069 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A six-month probationary period is required. This position is included in Pay Schedule 03, Range 09.

Special Qualifications:

Must possess, or have the ability to obtain within six months or prior to passing probation, a Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and tanker endorsement(s), maintain a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standards, and maintain ability to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles.

This position is located in the Environmental Services Department at the University of Wisconsin Madison , Facilities Planning and Management, Physical Plant. The list established from this register will be used to fill mutliple vacancies for the next six to twelve months. Some training will be provided for candidates with minimal experience.

Job Duties: Responsibilities include installation of planting beds, controlling weed growth, examining and determining the general health of plants, watering landscape plantings, propagating plants, planting annual floral displays, and removal of annual floral displays after frost. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of grounds equipment. Knowledge of standard gardening maintenance, and management practice and procedures. Knowledge of plant diseases, pests, and pest I.D., chemical and biological controls and equipment as required. Knowledge of varieties of soils and soil mixtures that are suitable for different species. Knowledge of gardening hand tools. This position requires the ability to work as a team player and ability to exercise a strong sense of priority and time management.
