Purpose Provide skilled landscaping work to maintain the health and appearance of The University of Texas at Austin campus landscape.

Essential Functions Constructs and maintains landscape installations according to landscape designs and university standards (to include all turf, shrubs, plants, trees, and hardscapes) and reports trouble conditions on campus that may be a safety hazard to the university. Safely operates all types of landscaping equipment (to include power mowers, string trimmers, skid steer, backhoe, compact and full sized landscape tractors, and other equipment used in landscape construction and installation). Irrigates new landscape (turf, plants, trees, and shrubs) to maintain the health of the plants, abides by water restrictions as directed, reports equipment problems and failures and performs minor repairs as directed, and may install small irrigation systems. Cleans, maintains, operates a university vehicle, and maintain acceptable driver rating as established in UT Austin Policy Memo 7.601. Follows and readily accepts written and oral instructions, maintains work schedule set by the supervisor, and completes routine paperwork (to include daily electronic data). Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task, follows safety rules, and maintains safe working conditions. Supervises a crew in the absence of the Sr. Landscape Technician.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions Adheres to and performs related functions as assigned and works overtime in support of special events, emergencies, and planned after hours work.

Required qualifications High School graduation or GED. Two to three years of experience in the care and installation of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns, and hardscape. Ability to operate landscape equipment (to include power mowers, string trimmers, skid steer, backhoe, compact and full sized landscape tractors). Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (weather, dust, noise, heights, fumes). Ability to perform basic computer operations. Stable work history. Punctual and regular attendance. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications Some college courses. More than three years of experience in landscape construction and plant knowledge (to include new landscape and hardscape installation) in an institutional or commercial setting. Experience using commercial-type landscaping equipment. Trained and/or certified in equipment operation and maintenance. Technical training in landscaping or horticulture. Working knowledge of Texas plant material and hardscape material. Demonstrates ability to effectively work in a team environment. Experience supervising a small landscape crew.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
